SF Fashion Events: ModCloth Academy, Passport to Rio Fashion Show + More

San Francisco’s style landscape is heating up this week, thanks to a bevy of events for those who love local fashion. As usual, Thursday evening brings a crowded calendar, with the latest installment of RAW SF, the kickoff of the Crimson Mim Summer Speaker Series, Loft 1513′s Mid-Summer Fashion Soiree and a Madewell event featuring Honestly…WTF? blogger Erica Chan Coffman. Once the weekend rolls around, there’s the 4th annual Styling the Modern Man Gala, the return of Treasure Island Flea, the very first ModCloth Academy and, a highlight on Saturday night, the Passport to Rio Fashion Show from Bianca Starr productions featuring apparel by nelou‘s global roster of independent designers.

SF Fashion Events: Chillin’s 14th Anniversary, Trunk Shows, Parties + More

Along with the annual extravaganza that is San Francisco Pride (always a key coupling of days for spotting fabulous apparel mixed with a good-natured lack thereof), this week promises local fashion fun in the form of the Chillin’ Productions 14th Anniversary Party (for those who don’t know, this is the City’s longest-running indie shopping and art event), a Rare Device trunk show featuring Elizabeth Street Cosmetics and L’Aromatica Perfume, the Grand Opening Party for Marmalade Boutique‘s new space and the return of Treasure Island Flea. If clearing out your closet intrigues, there’s a Poshmark Listing Party at the fashion tech company’s Menlo Park HQ that promises fun.

The Do List: SF Fashion Events Jan. 23-29

On the style forecast this week: plenty of snow, the kind that’s actually conducive to heels and comes around but once a year. Snow, A White Fashion Event is back with its annual show featuring all-white collections from local designers and an audience clad in outfits to match. Also on the horizon this week: another Do-It-Yourself Marketing event at TechShop San Francisco put on by jewelry designer Shana Astrachan and Genevieve Robertson of Lightbox SF, a men’s vintage fashion show in the Mission, the return of Geek Style Lounge and the kickoff of the Treasure Island Flea winter pop-up.

The Do List: SF Fashion Events Nov. 21-27

It’s the week of our absolute favorite holiday of the year. Things will be quieter in San Francisco fashion land until we’ve gorged ourselves on Thursday, but then there’s much to do. You’ll find us blurbing a few of our favorite events here and complete details, as always, on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • First things first, enjoy cooking and baking and sitting and eating and talking and drinking and laughing and bitching and napping and cleaning and drinking and eating and giving thanks with your family and friends on Thursday.
  • On Friday, be ready for a deluge of San Francisco Black Friday sales, trunk shows and events. We’ll be rounding up the best of ‘em featuring local, independent sources in the next few days. Stay tuned for that.
  • The following day brings Small Business Saturday, a kind of antidote to Black Friday big box madness. We’ll be featuring a little something special on this nationwide initiative sponsored by American Express later in the week. But for now, know it’s the day to celebrate all those amazing small businesses that make our City so grand.
  • The same day, Molte Cose and Bella Cose owner Teresa Nittolo hosts a Holiday Bazaar and Fundraiser for Firehouse 8, an historic landmark building project that she’s been working on for months and months. The event offers a chance to shop from local artisans and designers such as Kathleen van der Spek, Lotta’s Bakery and Blue Ribbon Salvage and support the revitalization of a beautiful old San Francisco building into a new, multifunctional shopping and event space.
  • In Hayes Valley at Welcome Stranger, pop in on Saturday for the Mayfourtheenth Trunk Show and get an eyeful of this local sunglasses line’s latest styles while chatting with designer Benjamin Belsky.
  • All weekend, a reason to head slightly east comes with the year’s final installment of Treasure Island Flea. A holiday toy drive adds a feel-good element to the outdoor event filled with local vendors, designers and artisans. Bring a toy to donate to kids in need, and you’ll get in for free (reg. admission is $3). Other perks: parking is free, and the event is super kid- and dog-friendly.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events July 25-31

And as always, the week ahead brings ample opportunity to shop from local sources. You’ll find the details on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar, and we’ve called out a few of our favorite upcoming San Francisco fashion events below.

  • On Tuesday, the self-tanning experts behind Beautisol join forces with Russian Hill’s Beauty Company for a Facebook Fan Appreciation Party. To partake, just “like” both hosts on Facebook, then head over for an evening of food, drink, goodie bags and self-tanning tips from Beautisol’s Sinead Norenius.
  • On Wednesday, longtime local jewelry line viv&ingrid celebrates the opening of its first retail shop with a party at the new Oxford Hall location in Berkeley.
  • SoMa, the Mission and Pacific Heights each play host on Thursday night to oh-so-stylish events with appeal for different crowds. Retail studio and fashion production house The Factory toasts to its first six months with a Warhol-themed shindig on 4th St., while Clary Sage Organics clinks glasses over its three-year anniversary on Fillmore Street. Last but not least, avant garde fashion is on display at the Mission’s Five & Diamond shop during a Pure Vile trunk show, which promises the New York label’s far-out, one-0f-a-kind accessories made using such macabre materials as doll parts, lace and bone.
  • Top the week off with the array of vendors selling local apparel, accessories, food and much, much more during the latest Treasure Island Flea.
