Petal to the Metal: Make Believe at Tedda Hughes

Resin roses meet chunky gold chain in the neckpieces and brooches of Sydney-based and Tokyo-influenced design duo Make Believe, whose work we hear is now exclusively available in the good ‘ole US of A at Russian Hill boutique Tedda Hughes.

At upwards of $250 a pop, these adornments aren’t cheap, but their intricate construction and 80′s rapper-meets-Harajuku Lolita ethos make us stop and stare – in a good way.

No shrinking violets here.

Another place you’ll find nary a shrinking violet? At Tedda Hughes on Friday, where a Black Friday sale and happy hour begins unraveling itself circa noon-o-clock.

Won’t you join?

The detes are below:

This Just In: Costume Dept. at Tedda Hughes

Tedda-Hughes_costume-dept-aw09-42

Dear imaginary fashion diary,

Where on earth can I find Costume Dept. sequin leggings in San Francisco? Sigh.

Signed,

SF Indie Fashion

As must be more than abundantly clear by now, we love having the scoop on where to find our favorite independent labels from beyond the Bay Area hiding out in San Francisco boutiques, so it goes without saying that we were thrilled to learn that Russion Hill’s Tedda Hughes just began stocking the rock-sexy leg coverings of Hollywood-based Costume Dept.

“Just in time for Halloween, holidays, etc. They are so very gorgeous,” owner Tedda tells us.

Best known for limited-edition leggings in far-out fabrics, stage-worthy prints, sequins and lace, the up-and-coming company has launched its first full collection for fall. Among the Costume Dept. Autumn/Winter 2009 pieces ($46 and up) you’ll find gracing the racks at Tedda Hughes is a fringe top that’s just begging to be spun around on the dance floor (or, more likely for us, a less-crowded sidewalk outside the bar).

Tedda Hughes Spring Sale This Weekend

teddahughes_saleapril09

If you haven’t gotten a chance to visit the new Tedda Hughes boutique in Russian Hill yet, the spring sale starting tomorrow brings an added incentive. Stop into the shop for markdowns on merch from what we think is a fab selection of independent designers and artists, among them She-Bible, Richard Ruiz, Miss KK, Helena de Natalio and Atsuko Kudo.

For more fun San Francisco fashion and shopping events happening this weekend, check out the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

Meet Tedda Hughes Gallery Boutique

shebibledressb

We had a great time visiting the Tedda Hughes gallery boutique in Russian Hill over the weekend. After meeting Tedda at the space just over a week ago when the art was just going up on the walls and the merch was still in boxes, it was exciting see the place come together just in time for its opening weekend.

Right now, the store is truly equal parts gallery and boutique – with one wall almost entirely devoted to work by local artists Hilary Williams, dk haas and Trish Tunney. The clothing and accessories selection is well-edited and emphasizes independent designers, with pieces by She-Bible, Richard Ruiz, Sass and Bide and Atsuko Kudo hanging from the racks. In back, offerings for kids include standouts like playful superhero capes made by Tedda herself…

We suggest you go check it out yourself, but in the meantime, some pics:

Don’t Miss: Tedda Hughes Opening Party

tedda-hughes_postcardforweb3

We’ll have more for you soon on this fab new boutique (it opened yesterday) from local artist and designer Tedda Hughes, but in the meantime, we recommend putting this party on your list for Saturday night. Last weekend, we got a sneak preview of the store and its enviable inventory of finds from such independent designers as Helena de Natalio, She-Bible and Atsuko Kudo – and we have no doubt that this will fast become one of the go-to spots on our list….stay tuned for more.
