For most of us, being wild at work is a surefire way to end up sans job. But for hard-working silk worms, being wild is actually a professional boon. For proof, look no further than San Francisco-based Venn and its wild silk scarves.

Designer and California College of the Arts grad Zara Marin Franks uses only 100 percent Tussah silk in the lightweight spring and summer scarves she makes by hand.

“This means the worm isn’t harmed as in regular silk production, and the fibers are shorter, giving the yarn a unique texture and luster,” Franks tells us.

Working with yarn spun in Japan and hand-dyed in the Bay Area, Franks found inspiration for the color palettes in her latest collection ($122-$168) from San Francisco spots such as Alamo Square Park.

Currently, you’ll find Venn at Button Down (3415 Sacramento St., SF). Orders may also be placed via the Venn etsy shop.

SF Summer Scarf: Distilled Finally Makes Something for the Ladies

distilled_sfss-card500x700

Why so much hype about a scarf? Well, for one thing, have you looked outside today? For another, the new summer scarf from made-in-the-Mission label Distilled is the company’s very first unisex piece (Yeah, we know. We said, “unisex piece”). Giggles aside, we’re seriously amped about what this means for our fashion futures: Distilled for women, coming later this fall.

For a taste of what’s to come, check out Lorraine’s post announcing the Distilled San Francisco Summer Scarf on the 7×7 Glamwatch blog today. To score a scarf of your own, head to Hayes Valley’s Nomads or pop onto the Distilled web site to explore its online shop.

But before you go, peruse the images that follow.
