How to Rock Local Gear at Outside Lands

What to Wear to Oustide Lands

San Francisco’s music event of the summer is here: Outside Lands is bringing awesome bands, performers and local food vendors to Golden Gate Park this weekend. Why not show off the best the city has to offer with a killer outfit built from locally-designed pieces?

Ladies, try staying warm in a cozy Micaela Greg sweater. Let your jewelry be fun and functional with a map necklace to keep you from getting lost and a watch to make sure you see your favorite sets on time. Gentlemen, take in the tunes in mocs from Taylor Stitch and keep the fog at bay with a jacket from local denim maker Tellason.

Check our list below to find the goods pictured above. Need something else for San Francisco’s (colder and foggier) version of Coachella? Head to BeGood Clothing, who’ll be hosting an Outside Lands sale on all the new shop’s festival-worthy gear.

Spotted (SF Street Style): 70s Chic

Spotted: Candace, seen at 16th and Valencia in the Mission wearing high-waisted bellbottom jeans, a green leather vintage jacket with fur collar and handmade jewelry made from her friend’s line, the indie Austin-based Sisters of the Black Moon.

When asked to describe her style, she said, “I kind of just threw this on…wanted something casual.” Her favorite store? Thrift Town.

“Fashion Fights AIDS” Fashion Show Fundraiser this Friday

Fashion Fights AIDS: AIDS Walk 2010 Benefit Fashion Show is kicking off the annual AIDS Walk San Francisco weekend with a stylish fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.  Occurring on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Horizon Restaurant and Lounge, an amazing line-up of local designers, models, stylists and fashion event producers have collaborated to raise money and help bring awareness to the fight against AIDS.  This event is a prelude to the AIDS Walk San Francisco, happening on July 18, 2010 at Golden Gate Park.

Since its inception, AIDS Walk San Francisco (AWSF) has raised more than $74 million for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and dozens of other Bay Area HIV/AIDS service organizations.  AWSF was founded in 1987 by Craig R. Miller and his organization of activists, MZA Events.  Miller is the originator of the AIDS Walk fundraising model, which has raised more than $350 million for leading AIDS charities nationwide.  The world’s first AIDS Walk was created in Los Angeles in 1985 and expanded within a couple years to New York and San Francisco.  The event has become a Bay Area institution, bringing together tens of thousands of participant fundraisers and volunteers; hundreds of corporate, community, and friends and family teams; and hundreds and thousands of donors from the Bay Area and across the country.  The event benefits the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and more than 60 other Bay Area AIDS service organizations.  It’s successful annual turnout demonstrates the community’s enthusiastic support for the Foundation’s goals of radically reducing the number of new HIV infections and promoting the health of people living with HIV/AIDS in the Bay Area.

Everyone involved in the Fashion Fights AIDS event are donating their time and resources, allowing 100% of all event proceeds to go towards the AIDS Walk San Francisco and SF AIDS Foundation.  Participating designers include Rebel Voices Clothing, Serena Hughes Designs, Josepine Resort, Love, Danielle Pettee, Miz B by Leila Radan, Magdalena Trever, Medium Reality, Byanbe, InLush, Fashion Art 4 Humanity, G82 Designs, NK Swim, Jewelry by Christine, Jeremiah Hill, West Coast Leather, Cocoa Jeans, Fashions by Brice and Kitty Andrews Millinery.  The Fashion Show Producer Shannon Hardisty has pulled together a talented staff for the event, including Shaun McClendon of Supreme Network, Shae Lynn of VIP Socialite, Leyina Chen of Leyina Chen Productions, and Charleston Pierce of Charleston Pierce Presents.

Fashion Fights AIDS promises to be a memorable fashion runway event for a worthwhile cause.  Not only is the event showcasing local fashion industry talent, it’s most importantly making an impact by raising awareness and funds for the fight against AIDS.

Fashion Fights Aids is taking place on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Horizon Restaurant & Lounge, 498 Broadway in San Francisco.  Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door.  They can be purchased online at http://fashionfightsaids.eventbrite.com.  Doors open at 8:00 PM and the fashion show starts at 9:00 PM.  For more information on AIDS Walk San Francisco, please visit their website at http://www.aidswalk.net/sanfran/eventinfo/eventinfo.html.

Glammed up at the “Get Pretty Party”

Within the last two months, fashion designer Danielle Pettee has had her Spring 2010 collection headline the Charity Fashion Show, had one of her dresses published in Helium Magazine, produced a dress that helped a woman win Style Studio’s “Sex in the City 2 contest”, kicked off Parlor’s fashion series with a successful runway show and trunk sale, received requests from boutiques to sell her dresses, wardrobe models at the Playboy mansion and received offers to dress a famous national stylist and a reality star of “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”

Who is the active Fashion PR person behind all of this?  None other than Danielle herself.  Since she started designing last Fall, she has made a tremendous impact through her own grass-roots marketing and PR efforts.  In addition to being a talented dress maker, she knows how to plan out and organize fashion shows and trunk sales with the help of her network of loyal industry associates, ranging from stylists and models to photographers.

Her latest event at Showdown in San Francisco can be added to her list of creative fashion events.  Because plans fell through for her to be in a fashion show on June 26th, she decided to throw a “Sample Sale. Get Pretty Party” for that evening.  With just a couple days of planning, she collaborated with one of her clients Anita Dah, the owner of Showdown, to reserve an area of the bar for a trunk show and fashion presentation.  Once word got out about her event, models, stylists and photographers offered to help out.  At the trunk show, Danielle had models do a live photo shoot for guests, to help showcase her collection to customers.

In addition, people attending the trunk show were able to select and wear a Pettee dress as part of their own fashion photo shoot with photographer Ed Jay.  What made the trunk show especially interesting is that Danielle was easily accessible to talk about the construction and fit of her dresses and jumpers, as well as what she can custom design for clients.  As a result of the event, Danielle received new clients, made women feel beautiful by being a fashion model for the night, and pulled off another successful PR event.

Sponsor Love: Michelle Obama Dresses from New Orleans

picture-1

If you follow the First Lady and like her style, then we’re willing to wager you’ll be interested in The Obama Dress, an all-in-one site and online store where you can buy the most popular Michelle Obama dresses.

Featured here is the Tracy Reese lace kimono design that the First Lady donned for People magazine. The independent New Orleans-based company behind the dresses makes each one, so they’re able to charge about one-third of what you’d pay to purchase the official designer dresses off-the-rack.

Many of the dresses and outfits worn by the First Lady are tough (if not impossible) to find these days, so it’s sweet to see custom versions in one location.

Along with the Tracy Reese design shown here, you’ll also find the online store stocked with a custom version of the Michelle Obama dress from The View. We recommend a visit to the site to see all the dresses currently available and to vote on which Michelle Obama dress you’d like to see them make next.
