SF Fashion Events: SFMade’s Factory Tour, Wild Feather + Fashion on the Square

The week ahead is a quieter one than most where local fashion is concerned, but three events stand out. On Friday, SFMade offers a chance to see the inner workings of the fashion biz during its latest local fashion factory tour. Saturday brings an all-day opening party for new Haight Street boutique Wild Feather, and, on Sunday, the annual Fashion on the Square event delivers a fashion show featuring San Francisco’s Joseph Domingo alongside apparel from a varied mix that includes Old Navy, Apple Bottoms, Keneuoe, Dark Garden and San Francisco State University student designers, among others.

Find details on these and other upcoming San Francisco fashion events waiting on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar. And of course, as you know, it doesn’t stop there. We’re adding new fashion happenings all the time, so check back often.

More San Francisco fashion

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events May 16-22

The focus this week is on locally-made goods – and we’re not just talking about what’s happening on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar. Throughout the City, the annual San Francisco Small Business Week coincides with the start of the inaugural SFMade Week. Add new resources for local designers, two notable fashion shows and a sweet pop-up shop, and we’re soon busy, busy, busy.

  • The first Fashion Market SF Designer Workshop takes place tonight at the San Francisco Fashion Collective showrooms. During the new series, fashion pros and Fashion Market SF founders Karri Ann Frerichs and Leslie Lum bring their sales and marketing chops to the table to help designers in the process of launching their lines. If you can’t make tonight’s event, more of the small group workshops are on the horizon, so check the SF Indie Fashion Calendar for details.
  • San Francisco Small Business Week means plenty of opportunities for local business owners (and those aspiring to join their ranks) to network, learn new skills and increase their visibility. Business owners will find Wednesday’s all-day free conference full of seminars on everything from finding local subcontractors to social media, while Saturday’s citywide Shop Your Neighborhood initiative is an excellent excuse to check out some of the independent boutiques in your ‘hood. Saturday also marks the start of the first SFMade Week from the eponymous nonprofit, whose work to help manufacturers of everything from messengers bags to artisan chocolate stay within city limits has landed it much recognition as of late. For fans of independent fashion, the SFMade Pop-Up Shop in the incubation space next to The Summit on Saturday promises a chance to shop from local names such as Kyler by Joy O, Sally Spicer, Rickshaw Bagworks and Tamo Design.
  • The Black V fashion show on Saturday night intrigues for three key reasons. Not only does the “masquerade” fashion event means you can don pretty much anything you want and get away with it, it’s also a benefit for the fashion department at City College and one of the first times Project Runway‘s Jay Nicolas Sario has shown his work locally since his stint on the show.
  • Continuing the spring student fashion show season, Sunday brings the annual City College of San Francisco Fashion Show, a runway event featuring the work of fashion department students in the always-flashy environs of Ruby Skye. This year, the school is going big for the show in honor of the fashion program’s 10th anniversary. That said, the ticket prices remain low, with admission starting at $10 for students and increasing to just $15 for members of the general public.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Feb. 14-20

Fashion Week may be in full swing in New York, but you can still play stylishly on the Left Coast, thanks to the SF Indie Fashion Calendar. This week, there are plenty of events to keep San Francisco fashion lovers busy with trunk sales, beauty happenings, fashion shows and places to shop from independent sources. Here’s our pick of top San Francisco fashion events this week:

  • Whether you’re seriously in love or plan to spend all day mock-vomiting in protest of the holiday’s general gushiness, you can spend Valentine’s Day falling in love (or like like) with local fashion, thanks to Lovesick 4, the (you guessed it) fourth annual fashion show from Alexandria von Bromssen. Prepare for apparel and accessories with a dark streak, as well as a trunk show, drinky drinks and live music from the Goldenhearts. The fashion show includes designers and labels Alexandria von Bromssen, Tamo Designs, Silver Lucy, My Dirty Dishes, Miss Velvet Cream, RAG-DOLL Designs by Larissa Verdussen, Ms G Designs, Fluidance and Jasmin Zorlu Millinery.
  • On Thursday, two events have caught our eye. First up, it’s Project San Francisco, which will feature collections by emerging designers such as Elizabeth Kay, Nneka and Zoe Hong at The Summit. Donations for Dress for Success will be accepted at the event, whose proceeds will benefit the non-profit and the San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance.
  • Also on Thursday, the design-minded among us will no doubt be intrigued by an evening with the founders of local accessories company DODOcase, whose covers for iPads and Kindles are handmade using bookbinding techniques and have turned the company into a multimillion dollar success story in under a year. Presented by SFMade, the event will offer insight into growing a brand that’s locally-made, yet nationally recognized.
  • With the long weekend, there’s even more reason to feel festive on Sunday. A great place for fashions of local fashion to do that: Sunday Funday at the Factory, a new SoMa destination that offers designers production services and shoppers access to its own in-house line of locally-made apparel.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.
