The Do List: SF Fashion Events Dec. 19-25

Now that we’re legitimately into a holiday week, San Francisco’s fashion and style landscape quiets down. But don’t think it’s going to stop. There are worthy events (shoes? whiskey! comedians?!) ahead this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar. We’ve called out a few of our favorites below. Happy holidays to all.

  • On Tuesday night, San Francisco shoe designer Martha Davis and jewelry designer Jeannine Payer are holding a Pop Up Reception in honor of their month-long pop-up shop at Sacramento Street’s Birch. Head over before heading into the holidays to mingle with these two local creatives and shop their latest pieces.
  • Another Tuesday happening worth a local fashion fan’s attention is a virtual one: FashFilmFest’s $2 Tuesday. It’s a call to everyone who’d like to see the festival become a reality to donate $2 to the Kickstarter campaign to help the founders (Adelle, Kim and Annie) reach their funding goal before Christmas.
  • Later in the week, get your laugh on at the annual Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Festival, which brings Jewish comedy to the stage on Christmas (and extra days this year) in a Chinese restaurant. Shows take place Dec. 23-25.
  • If you need last-minute gifts from a local source, many boutiques will be open late on Christmas Eve, including Mission Street shop and gallery Secession Art + Design, where doors will stay open ’til 7 p.m. and whiskey and cookies will be served.
  • The rest of the weekend will be quiet in San Francisco fashion land as many hole up with their friends and families to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza. Enjoy the time off, rest and rejuvenate. 2012 is only right around the corner.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Aug. 15-21

This week, a local gallery that flies under-the-radar, but is hugely important to the local art and design scene celebrates four years on Friday, and there are a variety of other stylish events to keep you entertained. You’ll find the details on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • If you’re on the hunt for hair feather extensions (which we decided are now officially mainstream after seeing them on someone performing at the CMA Awards, which we were so not watching, but accidentally viewing for like one second during a random channel flipping moment…), you can get ‘em this week at one of two FeatherLuxe extensions events in the Bay Area.
  • On Friday evening, head to the Secession Art & Design 4th Anniversary Party to celebrate this lower Bernal Heights gallery’s latest birthday. Headed up by Eden Stein, the space has been a hub for local artists and designers since its opening in 2007. Today, it’s home to resident artists such as jewelry designer Colleen Mauer and offers regular shows featuring apparel, accessories, art and objects for the home from a wide range of local talent handpicked by Stein.
  • Whether you’re heading to Burning Man or opting out of the desert this year, there are many reasons to check out the Five & Diamond Pre-Playa Loft Sale this weekend for chances to scope the latest from small, edgy indie labels such as Heathen, S&G and Kittinhawk.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

S X 3: Shop. Save. Secession.

While plenty of shops seem constantly in a the throws of one sale or another, it’s not everyday you hear about a sale at lower Bernal boutique and gallery Secession, and that makes a visit this weekend even more enticing.

All merch – art, clothing and jewelry – in the well-edited space curated by Eden Stein is 10 percent off (which may not seem like much at first, but then you have to consider that everything in the store is legitimate art) and collections from select designers and artists are 20 percent off. You’ll find the extra discounts on jewelry by Colleen Mauer, art by Heather Robinson and Nate1, clothing from De Novo, Kelly Lane and Nicacelly and furniture and fabrics by Swanky Swell. Also, onesies by New Skool are going for a mere $10. Hello, affordable baby gift.

There’s a happy hour shindig tonight from 6:30 to 9:30pm (they’re always a good time) and extended hours (12-8pm) throughout the weekend.

Autumn is So On at Secession

Checking out pics from Kelly Lane and De Novo has us in an autumnal kind of mood today. Good thing we’ll be able to spot both at Secession Art and Design this weekend during the Lower Bernal Heights’ boutique and gallery’s open studios weekend.

And these two labels are hardly the only ones showing off during the space’s fall show. Check the flyers below for all the detes….
