A new Secession Art + Design summer show featuring local art and independent fashion opens tomorrow, and we’re already smitten with the array of work: vibrant photography by Kelly Nicolaisen, encaustic works by dk haas, apparel and accessories by Kajan Padraig, Regina Pfanz, Tamo Design, Mr. California and She-Bible.
Located at the intersection of Bernal Heights and the Mission, this gallery and boutique always features an impressive selection of handmade, independent and locally-crafted fine and functional art. Curated under the watchful eye of owner Eden Stein, each show offers a window into the breadth of design talent available in the Bay Area. While art showcased throughout the gallery will no doubt draw your eyes to the walls, racks and displays full of wearable, functional art, apparel and accessories usually keep us perusing longer than we mean to on any given visit. Other reasons to go: the space is also home to in-house artists such as Heather Robinson, New Skool, Stein’s Twelve Designs and designer Colleen Mauer, who crafts her popular jewelry line in the shop.
On Friday night (6:30-9:30), the gallery celebrates the new summer show with an opening reception amped up by the beats of DJ Extralars and on-demand poems delivered courtesy of The Poetry Store.
