The Do List: SF Fashion Events Feb. 6-12

Yes, Fashion Week is kicking off in #NYC. But there are still reasons to love life in San Francisco. If you’re computer-bound, as I often am, spend free minuteswatching livestreams from New York fashion blogger conference IFBCon and the Fashion Week runway show featuring local alums of Academy of Art University. Also enticing and on the horizon are Thursday’s Pre-Valentine’s Day Party at Photobooth and, once the weekend rolls around, the return of the always-fruitful BCBG & Ella Moss Sample Sale and the most recent I.R.L. Black Pyramid Pop-Up, sure to prompt fans of recent vintage to make a beeline for the Haight.

See you out and about!

The Do List: SF Fashion Events Dec. 5-11

An always-stunning sustainable style gala, San Francisco fashion blogger must-dos, in-store parties and holiday shopping events are cheerfully crowding the calendar this week. As always, you’ll find the details on these and many more great upcoming events on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • Much of the City’s glitterati will be glamming up on Tuesday night for Global Green’s 7th Annual Gorgeous & Green Gala. Tickets ($1,000+) for the dinner extravaganza don’t come cheap, but the party-goers who spring for the experience will be treated to an eco fashion show, music by Michelle Branch, food by such chefs as Michael Mina and lots of other goodies. Proceeds benefit Global Green’s projects in San Francisco and beyond.
  • Two events are sure to entice San Francisco fashion bloggers out on the town this week. First up, on Wednesday, Jackson Square’s La Boutique hosts the Polyvore x iFabbo Blogger Happy Hour, which is already drawing RSVPs from stylish staffers of companies such as Google, ModCloth, Gap and Salesforce.com, as well as many Bay Area bloggers we heart. Then on Sunday, the SFFMMA teams up with SeeZenn to host a Geek Style Lounge Launch & Holiday Party at the Westfield Centre. A blogging panel featuring Mira of the Beauty Bohemian, Savvy in San Francisco’s Melissa, the Chic Spy’s Mignon Gould and others will be a key part of the event.
  • In true holiday season style, the rest of the week is full of parties and chances to shop local. Getting festive with independent fashion will be oh-so-easy, thanks to holiday parties and shindigs from Pladra, Fiat Lux, Conifer, Secession Art + Design, The Factory, Clary Sage Organics and Boutiika at Azalea. We’re gonna keep it simple let you peep all the detes on the cal.

The Do List: SF Fashion Events Nov. 28-Dec. 4

If you’re looking to shop local and give items made by independent and fabulous Bay Area designers, artisans and creative folks this holiday season, the next three weeks are your oyster. There are a slew of great indie shop opps on the horizon, as well as a beauty fundraiser for public schools and a launch party you won’t want to miss. As always, you’ll find the details on these and many more great upcoming events on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • Pretty is as pretty does, right? Roll with that sentiment on Tuesday night during the kick-off party for the annual Maas Clinic Beauty for Books fundraiser benefiting San Francisco public schools. Bring five or more books appropriate for kids in grades K-8, and you’ll be able to pick from the medi-clinic’s stocking of free treatments (lasers, Botox, peels, among them). Local salons and beauty businesses will also be at the event to offer more beauty perks.
  • On Thursday evening, begin shopping local for the holidays at the Renaissance Center Holiday Gift Fair in SoMa. Many amazing local entrepreneurs and makers have benefited from the Center’s entrepreneurship classes and small business programs, and you’ll find many of them on display at this event, including Serial Cultura, Vanessa Gade, RGB Shop + Gallery and Taylor Stitch.
  • Also on Thursday, Hangr16 gets festive with the Wildlife Works Launch Party showcasing the label’s Ku Khanga collection of organic, carbon neutral t-shirts. The event will feature an exclusive exhibit of images used in the campaign and shot on location in Kenya by noted fashion photographer Peter Z Jones. It’s an invite-only party, and we’re betting many reading this are already on the list. But those who aren’t, well, use the power of Facebook.
  • A reason to cross the Golden Gate arrives on Friday evening, when the Designer Hub Opening Party takes over at Sausalito boutique and designer label Georgiou. The longtime Bay Area shop is opening up its mezzanine level to local designers such as Zoe Hong, Ken Chen and Danielle Pettee. The designers will be in-house design residents of the new space, and their work will be for sale there on an ongoing basis.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Aug. 15-21

This week, a local gallery that flies under-the-radar, but is hugely important to the local art and design scene celebrates four years on Friday, and there are a variety of other stylish events to keep you entertained. You’ll find the details on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • If you’re on the hunt for hair feather extensions (which we decided are now officially mainstream after seeing them on someone performing at the CMA Awards, which we were so not watching, but accidentally viewing for like one second during a random channel flipping moment…), you can get ‘em this week at one of two FeatherLuxe extensions events in the Bay Area.
  • On Friday evening, head to the Secession Art & Design 4th Anniversary Party to celebrate this lower Bernal Heights gallery’s latest birthday. Headed up by Eden Stein, the space has been a hub for local artists and designers since its opening in 2007. Today, it’s home to resident artists such as jewelry designer Colleen Mauer and offers regular shows featuring apparel, accessories, art and objects for the home from a wide range of local talent handpicked by Stein.
  • Whether you’re heading to Burning Man or opting out of the desert this year, there are many reasons to check out the Five & Diamond Pre-Playa Loft Sale this weekend for chances to scope the latest from small, edgy indie labels such as Heathen, S&G and Kittinhawk.

We Came, We Saw, We Shopped: Indie Mart

Booze, bands and browsing for vintage, handmade and unique bargains brought us to Indie Mart on another soggy Sunday afternoon.  The last street fair of the year before Indie Mart moves inside for the winter offered tasty treats, a hug wheel and even D.I.Y craft stations.

A $3 donation at the entrance covered the shopping, six bands and an after party.  Almost every vendor repurposes, recycles or has a great story behind their products. The vibe, although a little subdued by the rainy weather, was festive (especially once we enjoyed some amazing tater tots and a Bloody Mary or two).

Here are a few shots of what we found at Indie Mart:
