Future Fragrance: Ineke’s Hothouse Flower

Due out this September is the latest fragrance from artisanal San Francisco perfumer Ineke. With notes of gardenia and tea, the new Hothouse Flower scent continues the local company’s tradition of offering up fragrances with botanical roots and everyday wearability.

One of our favorite ways to try this line without committing to an entire bottle – and also an amazing hostess gift – is the Ineke Deluxe Sampler Collection. It’s $25 and includes sample size versions off the line’s seven scents.

SF Fashion Events: Artisan Fragrance Salon, Blog Brunch, Beyond the Fence + More

The first annual Artisan Fragrance Salon takes place on July 8 in San Francisco.

With fireworks on the horizon and a mid-week holiday spreading a nice dose of summer spirit around these parts, it’s going to be a quieter seven-day stretch in San Francisco than most. But there are still stylish diversions ahead. Along with going big on July 4th, entertain yourself this week with a visit to the first annual Artisan Fragrance Salon, featuring a who’s who of local perfumers that includes Ineke, Yosh, L’Aromatica and more. A chance to scope local designers’ apparel and accessories comes on Sunday during the burner-and-bohemian-friendly Beyond the Fence trunk show. For bloggers, Saturday’s Blog Brunch means audience-building and virtual socializing with bloggers around the country.

Find details on these and other upcoming San Francisco fashion events waiting on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar. And of course, as you know, it doesn’t stop there. We’re adding new fashion happenings all the time, so check back often.

Lasting Beauty: Captain Blankenship Balms and Solid Perfumes

Rosy Red for lips and cheeks, $15, from Captain Blankenship is made using Beeswax, California organic almond oil, organic jojoba oil, wildcrafted shea butter and essential oils.

Beauty products that not only deliver welcome results, but last and last and last get our shatter-polished thumbs up every time. We recently discovered such tandem benefits in Bay Area-based beauty line Captain Blankenship.

Priced from $15-$30 and packaged in reusable metal tins, the balms and solid perfumes from this local line can easily last over a year, says owner Jana Blankenship (the woman behind notable Mission art spot The People’s Gallery).

Begun as a small side project by Blankenship, an art curator who also works with the Wattis Institute, the homegrown beauty company’s growth has been steady in recent months, though strictly organic, not unlike many of its wild-crafted ingredients. These days, the line also includes liquid scents, bath salts and aromatic sprays.

Our favorite scent during a recent sniff session at The People’s Gallery? Mantra, an earthy fragrance designed to aid meditation and concentration made using jasmine, vetiver, sandalwood, blood orange and spearmint.

Ineke’s Lastest Scent: Gilded Lily

San Francisco perfumer Ineke has added another scent to its fragrance collection. Dubbed Gilded Lily ($88), the seventh scent from the classically-trained Ineke Ruhland mixes top notes of pineapple and rhubarb with the floral scent of Goldband Lily and base notes of earthy patchouli and oakmoss.

To celebrate the new scent’s arrival, the company is offering free shipping through Nov. 11.

A way to try all Ineke’s scents comes in the form of the Deluxe Sample Collection, which features sample sizes of all seven scents packed in a hard gift box (perfect for wrapping up and bestowing on someone you dig). Even better? The budget-friendly $25 price tag.
