The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Jan. 9-15

Now that ’12 is officially underway (’cause we all know the first week doesn’t really count), San Francisco fashion events are popping up after a holiday hiatus. This week, we’re betting local fashion fans will carve out time for the launch event of a new fashion and technology accelerator program, the second SF Fashion + Tech event and the always-fun annual sample sale at the Oakland studio of Verrieres & Sako.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

Snap Judgment: 5733 Hi Brad Tee

Our very-visual, (almost) chatter-free snap judgment of the day: the never-goes-out-of-style appeal of a Fast Times’ era Phoebe Cates featured on the Hi Brad shirt, $36, one of the new fall designs from Oakland’s fiftyseven-thirtythree label.

Fashion for a Good Cause: Wardrobe for Opportunity

Instead of online shopping while you’re supposed to be (ahem) working, try online shopping that’s designed to get others working by visiting Wardrobe for Opportunity’s new virtual donations boutique.

Designed for the Oakland non-profit’s summer fundraising campaign that’s running through June 30, the “shop” offers different donation options matched with the items of clothing the organization provides to employment-seeking men and women in need. If you can’t donate funds, the shop also encourages browsers to do the next best things by volunteering time or sharing news of the campaign with friends through social media and email.

For proof of what a difference polished, professional attire can make in scoring a new job, check out the before and after shots in the Wardrobe for Opportunity video below.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Jan. 24-30

The SF Indie Fashion Calendar is always full of events to keep San Francisco fashion lovers busy with trunk sales, beauty happenings, fashion shows and places to shop from independent sources. Here’s our pick of top San Francisco fashion events this week:

  • It goes without saying that we’re v. excited about the upcoming launch of the Retrofit Republic online shop in a few weeks. To tide us over until then, we’re glad to see a chance to shop from the San Francisco-based vintage source in person is on the horizon. Join Retrofit Republic’s Julia, Jenny and Genevieve on Friday at Somar Bar in Oakland for the launch of their spring 2011 video lookbook and a trunk sale showcasing their offerings for men and women.
  • Another reason to head east this week goes down Thursday night, when Piedmont Ave shop The Rare Bird hosts artist Kara Nelson and Revivify jewelry designer Molly Cruit for a reception featuring art and accessories made of recycled and repurposed objects and materials.
  • Come Saturday, you’ll find us stepping out in head-to-toe white and heading to Snow II, the second annual fashion showcase from the San Francisco Bay Area Fashion Network. We’re especially looking forward to the night’s fashion show, which includes Bay Area designers and labels Verrieres & Sako, Joseph Domingo, gr.dano, Dcepcion, Daniel Sudar, and Cari Borja.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.
