These days, carefully chosen accessories (and not entirely new outfits) are the saviors of many economy-stricken wardrobes. Local designer Jill Scharmen’s latest NolaBella jewelry collection offers up a clever way to do plaid without going overboard or succumbing to the huge plaid scarf trend those of us who reside in the Mission are reminded of every time we venture outside (to be fair, we do not hate the scarf trend. But we are a bit hung up and don’t like wearing what everyone else has on).
Needless to say, when we spotted the Mad Plaid Necklaces pictured here, we were smitten. No, we were twitterpated. In short, they make us happy.
Available in gray glenplaid and blackwatch plaid, each handmade necklace features loops of cotton fabric knotted together and suspended from a sturdy, industrial-chic gunmetal chain.
When we asked Jill about her inspiration for the pieces, she told us:
I’ve always loved plaid and think accessories are a good way to pull it off, as it could end up being too “trendy.” But because I chose classic plaids, I think this offers a person a unique and a new classic way to wear the plaids. I also have been wanting to experiment in new materials that still offer a classic, modern twist on jewelry and will stand the test of time. So much so, that I am currently trying out new fabrics for my soon to be launched Spring/Summer ’09 line.
We can’t wait to see it! In the meantime, we’ll all just have to feast our eyes on another pic:
