Living La Vida Lopez

1228-007.jpg

Prediction: Nico Lopez is a name you’re going to hear many times in the months to come. The 23-year-old San Francisco designer just unveiled her latest line of wearables under the label 1228 (named for her birthday, Dec. 28). You may remember Lopez’s work from SF MoMA Sessions last summer or her former line, Ungrateful Heart, or you may have spotted her jewelry and accessories collections at local boutiques like Minnie Wilde, RAG and Ideele.

But what stands out most is her current clothing collection, which juxtaposes moody, flowing shapes and tailored details in fabrics ranging from organic cotton to hemp, silk to bamboo twill. As always, Lopez continues to incorporate the vintage finds and vintage remnants she sources from local stores, thrift shops, estate sales and online auctions into her pieces.

Lopez is already at work on her 2009 collection. To view her current work on the rack, you’ll have to visit the designer in person at her San Francisco studio. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised to stumble across select pieces in Bay Area retail outlets in the next few months. It’s just a little hunch we have….In the meantime, feast your eyes on these shots, all by local photographer and Lopez pal Hilary Hulteen.
