Party Scene: Fashion’s Night Out at Two Birds

San Francisco’s most dedicated fashion fans took to the streets on the evening of September 8th to enjoy an assortment of Fashion’s Night Out events happening throughout the city. At Two Birds in Noe Valley, independent designer Ali Golden showed her new fall line, local designers’ jewelry hung on the walls and labels such as Parker, Halston Heritage and Elizabeth & James beckoned from the racks.

While many were downtown browsing through the offerings of Neiman Marcus, AllSaints, Gucci, Saks Fifth Avenue and others dotting Union Square and Maiden Lane, SF Indie Fashion partied it up at the Noe Valley shop, nestled on a quiet part of Castro street near the main 24th Street shopping drag. DJ Ry Toast kept the fun pumping on the ones and twos, spinning hip-hop classics intermixed with party anthems, while wine and bubbles were offered for refreshment.

On display in the middle of the store was a rack featuring the Fall 2011 collection from local designer Ali Golden, who used to run the Bull & the Bear in Hayes Valley but recently headed for Oakland to set up a new studio. Royal blue, a smattering of polka dots, luxurious camel, pumpkin orange and other rich autumn hues composed the color palette. Flowing cropped blouses and voluminous sheer maxis were standouts, as were the oversized, one-size-fits-all wool coats. Sipping, sampling and a sale on Golden’s pieces made a good time for all.

Fashion’s Night Out originated in New York, but the festivities have spread to other cities across the country in recent years. Prior years saw mostly mainstream stores participating, but this year a number of small boutiques featuring independent designers were on the FNO roster.

No matter what your take on style, few would argue that San Francisco doggies are among the most fashionable in the world.

Spotted: San Francisco Fashion & Style Bloggers

San Francisco fashion bloggers, style writers and fashion-philes en mass in the Rotunda.

Just before Fashion’s Night Out really got underway last Thursday evening, a serious assortment of San Francisco style bloggers and fashion-y folks converged upon the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus (don’t worry, they were invited) to toast San Francisco fashion and enjoy some I.R.L. chats before heading out into the night.

Among those on the scene were host Caitlin Flemming of Sacramento Street, Katie Armour of matchbook mag, Anne Sage of Rue magazine, Daily Candy Editor Schuyler Bailey, Fashion PR SF’s Lindsay Stevens, Britt + Whit’s Brittney Hebb and Whitney Powell, Jennie Lodge of Jennie Going West, The Styley’s Kate Seward, Cuffington’s Catie Nienaber, Chelsi Liddell of Designer File, Elisabeth Carr of Mission Closet, Lisa Thiele of With Style and Grace, Apartment 34′s Erin Hiemtra, Refinery29′s Klassy Goldberg, Jeanne Chan of Shop Sweet Things, Urban Bedoun Girl’s Amanne Sharif, Ahn Sundstrom of 9 to 5 Chic, Amber Wheable of Amber’s Notebook, Melissa Sanchez of Savvy in San Francisco, City Chic’s Krista Gray, Jacqueline LeBrun of The Hourglass and Santina Brohen of Style By Santina.

After raising glasses and posing for pics, the ladies slipped back into the streets with gifts totes padded by Gilt City, DODOCase, Popchips and others.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Feb. 28-March 6

And just like that, bye bye to February. As we March ahead, we turn to the SF Indie Fashion Calendar in search of events sure to keep San Francisco fashion lovers entertained. Read on for our weekly dose of trunk sales, beauty happenings, fashion shows and places to shop from independent sources. Our pick of top San Francisco fashion events this week:

  • Once the weekend rolls around, events combining fashion, shopping and worthy causes abound. First up, there’s L’Affaire, a fashion show benefiting Project Night Night’s programs supporting children.
  • Saturday’s Mission United fete at Public Works (wow has this place been busy lately) offers a chance to celebrate one of our favorite neighborhoods with food, music, fashion and general Mission-approved debauchery. The fashion component of the event includes a trunk show and style installations by Five & Diamond, The Mission Statement, Isso, Miranda Caroligne and Unavakin, among others. Proceeds benefit worthy recipients such as the San Francisco General Hospital and its Dr. Rick Psychiatric Department Volunteer & Rehab Services, Root Division and SFSmiles.
  • Over the weekend, two daytime shopping events give San Franciscans reason to escape the City. Head north on Saturday to Greenbrae for the Marin Store Sample Sale, featuring local labels and designers such as Amy Fink, ANYI LU, Bettina, Gold & Citrus, Isharya, juleselin, Kathy Kamei, MENK and Mette Vangso. On both Saturday and Sunday, the annual Oakland Museum White Elephant Sale means a chance to hunt for secondhand and vintage treasures on offer during what’s considered to be the largest rummage sale in Northern California while helping to raise much-needed funds for the museum’s many programs.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.
