When I redesigned the site over the summer, I did so with several goals, not the least of which was adding a community news section to SF Indie Fashion. The point? To bring in more voices than just my own and those of the handful of contributing writers that cover San Francisco fashion news and events for us. Sure, I may have my opinion and point of view, but the idea behind SF Indie Fashion has always been more about promoting the local fashion community and making it easier to find and shop from local designers, rather than pushing my personal style agenda or that of a select few of people.
To that end, I’ve always tried to showcase a wide variety of styles at a wide variety of price points. The idea is to show people options, not to dictate style or tell people what they should or shouldn’t buy. After many years of focusing on local fashion and shopping, adding new, local voices with their own perspectives on style seemed to be the next logical step in giving readers access to the wealth of interesting happenings, thoughts and points of view that are part of the San Francisco fashion landscape.
In order to make that happen, I created the San Francisco Fashion Community News section, which features recent content from partner blogs on the SF Indie Fashion home page. The section was created to make it easy for partner bloggers to get more exposure for their posts without having to create original content for free. Partner bloggers simply re-post blog posts that they’d like SF Indie Fashion readers to see in our content management system. We add the SEO-friendly goodness and tags, then push the content live.
I’m hoping it’s a win-win situation: the partner bloggers we work with get more eyeballs on their work, and SF Indie Fashion readers have access to even more of what’s going on in the Bay Area fashion scene.
At the moment, we’re happy to be partnered with such local fashion blogs as ModelinaMichelle, Moda Epidemic, Like Fresh Laundry and Style Bust.
