Spotted (SF Street Style): 70s Chic

Spotted: Candace, seen at 16th and Valencia in the Mission wearing high-waisted bellbottom jeans, a green leather vintage jacket with fur collar and handmade jewelry made from her friend’s line, the indie Austin-based Sisters of the Black Moon.

When asked to describe her style, she said, “I kind of just threw this on…wanted something casual.” Her favorite store? Thrift Town.

Witch Way Did They Go? Probably to Bell Jar…

Witches-Spring-2010

If the witches of the world were to gather together for a trunk show just in time for Halloween, we’d be not at all surprised to find them gobbling up moody baubles of vintage origins alongside dark and decidedly mysterious dresses ready to come along for their misadventures (who needs the broom and the black cat when you have a fabulous dress?) on what is no doubt for them the very biggest fashion event of the year.

And in that phantasmic spirit, it’s altogether fitting to learn that Gabby Applegate’s L.A.-based apparel label Witches (see images from the line’s March launch party here) will be holding court Wednesday night alongside Portland’s AK Vintage at Bell Jar in the Mission.

Witches and AK Vintage will be casting spells from 6 to 9 p.m. while bevvies abound. Select items from both designers will be on offer for 10 percent off during the event and Bell Jar is offering 25 percent off storewide.

SF Summer Scarf: Distilled Finally Makes Something for the Ladies

distilled_sfss-card500x700

Why so much hype about a scarf? Well, for one thing, have you looked outside today? For another, the new summer scarf from made-in-the-Mission label Distilled is the company’s very first unisex piece (Yeah, we know. We said, “unisex piece”). Giggles aside, we’re seriously amped about what this means for our fashion futures: Distilled for women, coming later this fall.

For a taste of what’s to come, check out Lorraine’s post announcing the Distilled San Francisco Summer Scarf on the 7×7 Glamwatch blog today. To score a scarf of your own, head to Hayes Valley’s Nomads or pop onto the Distilled web site to explore its online shop.

But before you go, peruse the images that follow.

Wear it Many Ways: Sofie Ølgaard Spring Dress

sofie-o-dress-1

We’re having a love affair right now with clothing that can be worn multiple ways. We love the versatility of this dress from San Francisco designer and Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion 2008 alum Sofie Ølgaard.

Wear the sash around your neck for a shoulder-slimming, A-line look (we might even sport it in a bow or geek-chic bow tie for kicks) or wrap it around your waist to create a pretty, hourglass effect. You could also do away with the sash completely or sub in a colorful belt to create a ton of different looks. Don’t even get us started on the fab possibilities sure to unfold were a cute cardigan, patterned leggings or skinny jeans to collide with this piece….

We hear Sofie will be launching an online store in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, check out her work at The Mission Statement.
