Makeup in Minutes: Makeup Gourmet Launches How-To Video Series

San Francisco beauty expert and Makeup Gourmet Founder Chris Scott has toured with Chanel, authored the Cosmetic Counter Survival Guide and prettied many a face at his SoMa studio. Now he’s offering anyone with a computer access to his expertise through a recently launched online video series. Why we like it: access to beauty how-tos, guides and tips from an expert makeup artist 24 hours a day.

The site offers an extensive number of HD videos which are broken down by age groups ranging from Teen Something to 50 Something, as well as an online store featuring Scott’s favorite products.

“I wanted to create a content rich delivery system that fulfilled the two most repeated questions—how to apply and what to buy. I wanted to put the consumer in control, so I broke down the content into sections to help people find the exact answers they require as effeciently and as effectively as possible,” says Scott, who has been working on producing the videos for over two years.

Since the opening of his SOMA studio about a year and a half ago, Scott has also launched his own line of Makeup Gourmet products, which are manufactured locally and available on the website.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Jan. 10-16

The SF Indie Fashion Calendar is always full of events to keep San Francisco fashion lovers busy with trunk sales, beauty happenings, fashion shows and places to shop from independent sources. Here’s our pick of top San Francisco fashion events this week:

  • Get the week in style with the return of Fashion Feud, the live showdown between local designers competing to make the best original garment during a brisk hour-long challenge. Round one features designers Crystal Hermann and Mary M. Yanez and goes down at Rickshaw Stop, where judges Maggie Alhadeff of Mimosas in Bed and Sex + Design and Stacy Lee of Sex + Design will choose the winning look. Further enticements: the event is free and open to the 18+ crowd.
  • Come Thursday, an unusual pairing of attractions takes place at Makeup Gourmet during the SoMa studio’s Cash for Gold event. Yes, it sounds a bit like the beginning of a late-night infomercial, but think of it this way: you can get hair and makeup advice while recycling any unwanted jewelry in your stash into cash that you can then use to further beautify….or buy draanks…or whatever. Either way, you win.
  • Once you’ve made it to the weekend, you can celebrate independent art and jewelry with a stop by the Inner Sunset’s Pearl Gallery, where a one-year celebration will be taking place on Saturday. We hear dessert wines and matching treats will be served to sweeten the deal.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.
