SF Indie Fashion News: reMade USA, PACT, Heart’s Desire and more…

remade-usa-1We love sparkly things, coffee with at the perfect temperature and the ideal sugar-to-milk ratio and cool stuff like this:

Fast Company profiled San Francisco-based reMade USA, whose recycled leather handbags are among our favorite new items of 2009.

East Bay company Heart’s Desire Jewelry has put all of its pretty, elegant eye candy on sale through Sept. 1. SF Indie Fashion readers (’cause you’re special) can take 50 percent off any of the limited edition and one-of-kind adornments with the discount code SFHDJ50.

We popped into Japantown’s New People last week and loved what we saw on level two (we’re suckers for Japanese street-inspired fashion). You can read Lorraine’s picks from her visit on 7×7 Glamwatch in 5 Things We Love at New People.

Speaking of Asian fashion, we hear SF Indie Fashion sponsor YesStyle will be opening its first U.S. store in San Francisco next month.

Bay Area-based underwear company PACT launched last week, and we’re already taken with their socially-responsible take on stylish skivvies. You can read a little more about this new, innovative company on SF Unzipped.

SF Indie Fashion friend Dream Sequins talks shop with Krista Bachmeier of Light Vision (a San Francisco-based online retailer we are clearly just a little obsessed with at the moment). We dig.

Reminding us that San Francisco independent fashion wasn’t born yesterday, the Chron’s Style Section has a lovely little profile of longtime local label Weston Wear, best know for versatile, go-anywhere dresses that flatter all body shapes.

P.S. Great local fashion events are happening today. Check out the SF Indie Fashion Calendar for the details.

Pin Up Girls: Rosenmunns + Light Vision Pin Party at Anica

The folks behind the interest-piquing party invites shown here announcing the upcoming RosenMunns + Light Vision Pin Party want you and your indie fashion-minded friends to do two very simple things this Friday night. One, get some pins (a.k.a. buttons). If you’re like us, you’ve got a small pin army chilling, quite without purpose, on, in or around your nightstand-bookshelf-jewelry box-dresser drawers. And guess what? They’d really like a way cooler venue.

Which brings us to the second thing you should do Friday night. Head to Anica, where the minds behind local label RosenMunns and online indie retailer Light Vision will be waiting. There, they will ask you to ever-so-gingerly affix your pins to an oversized, sweatshirt-like garment designed, dyed and sewn by RosenMunns and worn by a live model for the soiree. Photographer Bryan Krueger will document the garment’s evolution from relatively blank canvas to pin-addled wearable art. Punk tunes and good ‘ole rock ‘n roll will fill the air. You will leave pinless, but happy. And after the party, Light Vision will sell the evening’s experimental garment in its online store.

As Light Vision’s Krista Bachmeier tells us, “It’s a collaboration, fashion, art event party, and the concept of it is really simple. We just want people to show up, pins in hand, and put them on the model. We are trusting the audience to supply us with pins and help with the creation of this garment.”

Talk about getting stuck on indie fashion…

San Francisco Style: 5 Indie Swimsuits

You may have to leave town to find bathing suit-appropriate weather, but you don’t have to venture outside Bay Area limits to find great swimwear made by an independent designer.

Here, some of our favorite swimsuits available locally and made by indie designers in San Francisco, Oakland and elsewhere:

This black one-piece suit made by San Francisco designer Wreck ‘N Sew and sold by San Francisco online indie retailer Light Vision spices classic up with a cute bow and zipper in back.

The tie-neck Maria bikini by East Bay label AnaZara makes an impact in red and black.

Made in Brooklyn by indie label mociun, this is another suit sold by San Francisco online indie retailer Light Vision. This print one-piece is partially made from soy fiber and organic cotton.
