On Your Honor: Onerary Show

The combination of art and apparel never fails to intrigue us. Wearing clothing emblazoned with original art generally puts a spring in our collective steps. After all, doesn’t a little art bring more meaning to the daily act of donning threads?

For art on fashion this weekend, opt for the closing night of Danielle DeRoberts’ show at Air Castle Gallery on Saturday. A painter and one-half of the design duo behind local indie label Onerary, DeRoberts will be showing her series of fabric paintings and hosting a trunk show of her latest designs. The apparel for guys and dolls ranges from casual to street-inspired and features hand-rendered drawings and prints. For details on the show, visit the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

Natasha Bedingfield Dons Local Jewelry Line

While we’re not ones to be starstruck, we do love a celebrity sighting every now and again. Even better? A celeb spotted donning San Francisco-made fashion. The latest to grab that distinction is blond songstress Natasha Bedingfield, shown here at the G-Star Raw fall/winter 2010 presentation during New York Fashion Week in accessories by the City’s Gold & Citrus.

We love how she’s layered the local line’s intricately-detailed pieces for a sweetened up twist on rocker chic.

Below, the pieces Bedingfield chose: the Tangelo necklace in woven 24k gold-plated bugle beads and the Nearrings, a necklace-and-earrings combo in gold-plated beads and brass chain.

Appliques Gone Rad: Nicacelly

nicacelly_openstudiosflyer

We’ve been big fans of Nicacelly apparel since first stumbling across the label from San Francisco designer Nicole Markoff at RAG Co-Op four years ago.

We’re doubly impressed by Markoff’s ability to make floral appliques look edgy in a street-inspired urban way and her consistent use of bold hues and graphics to amp up the otherwise casual look of her gear.

But what seriously gets us every time is the fit. Markoff knows how to create pieces that flatter in subtle ways through the gentle flair of a shirt at the hips, the wrap-styling of a top or the careful placement of an obi belt.

Want to see Nicacelly’s designs in person? You’re in luck. She’ll be opening her SoMa studio this weekend as part of ArtSpan’s Open Studios. An added incentive? We hear Eden of Secession will also be on the scene with wares from her Bernal Heights boutique and gallery.
