The Do List: SF Fashion Events Dec. 5-11

An always-stunning sustainable style gala, San Francisco fashion blogger must-dos, in-store parties and holiday shopping events are cheerfully crowding the calendar this week. As always, you’ll find the details on these and many more great upcoming events on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • Much of the City’s glitterati will be glamming up on Tuesday night for Global Green’s 7th Annual Gorgeous & Green Gala. Tickets ($1,000+) for the dinner extravaganza don’t come cheap, but the party-goers who spring for the experience will be treated to an eco fashion show, music by Michelle Branch, food by such chefs as Michael Mina and lots of other goodies. Proceeds benefit Global Green’s projects in San Francisco and beyond.
  • Two events are sure to entice San Francisco fashion bloggers out on the town this week. First up, on Wednesday, Jackson Square’s La Boutique hosts the Polyvore x iFabbo Blogger Happy Hour, which is already drawing RSVPs from stylish staffers of companies such as Google, ModCloth, Gap and Salesforce.com, as well as many Bay Area bloggers we heart. Then on Sunday, the SFFMMA teams up with SeeZenn to host a Geek Style Lounge Launch & Holiday Party at the Westfield Centre. A blogging panel featuring Mira of the Beauty Bohemian, Savvy in San Francisco’s Melissa, the Chic Spy’s Mignon Gould and others will be a key part of the event.
  • In true holiday season style, the rest of the week is full of parties and chances to shop local. Getting festive with independent fashion will be oh-so-easy, thanks to holiday parties and shindigs from Pladra, Fiat Lux, Conifer, Secession Art + Design, The Factory, Clary Sage Organics and Boutiika at Azalea. We’re gonna keep it simple let you peep all the detes on the cal.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events June 13-19

With a bundle of worthwhile fashion events on the horizon, we couldn’t resist packing this week’s list to capacity. On the SF Indie Fashion Calendar, you’ll find chances to shop for a good cause, indulge in fashion and tech, scope new work from local labels and take in eco and emerging designs during two separate fashion shows. Brace yourself, this week is a (delightful) doozy.

  • Get into the swing midweek with fashion for a good cause when Sui Generis and The Women’s Initiative team up during A Night of Shopping and Champagne at the upscale Market St. consignment boutique. During the event, 20 percent of purchases made will go to support The Women’s Initiative and its programs helping women in need find entrepreneurial success.
  • On Thursday, one of our favorite topics – the intersection of fashion and tech – takes center stage at Pigment Cosmetics during the latest Fashion Mash Up from the San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance. The emphasis tonight is on mobile technology and fashion apps and features a guest panel of speakers from such companies as Alphyn Industries, Lookaroo, omgiluv.it, VIZL and Wix.
  • Also on Thursday, SoMa independent fashion hub 440 Brannan Showroom presents its latest designers and a store full of new stock during an evening party with treats from Zuppa. Peruse work from new in-store labels such as modaspia and Romey Designs, as well as the latest from gr.dano, Micaela Greg, Alley Collection, Menk and more.
  • Once the weekend rolls around, spend Saturday afternoon indulging in eco-fashion during the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden Green Gala, a bi-annual fundraising event supporting the gardens. Along with food and wine, this diversion promises a selection of stylish, eco-minded apparel designed by such local names as Stars + Ravens, Nicacelly, Feral Childe and Adie + George.
  • See a showing of student fashion on Saturday night, when the Art Institute of California-San Francisco presents The Fashion Line Up, featuring over 100 looks by 18 designers in the school’s fashion program.
  • Also that night, celebrate the arrival of San Francisco’s latest independent menswear label at the Fifth & Brannan launch party. It goes down at Cellar360 in Ghirardelli Square, so you can expect the evening to include scenic views and solid wines.

Green Gala Garden Party: Sustainable Fashion on the Runway

Some of the most exciting names in Bay Area sustainable fashion will show pieces from current collections during this weekend’s Green Gala Garden Party in the University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley.

That new-on-the-scene and utterly intriguing Mr. Larkin, Permacouture founder and fiber artist Sasha Duerr, J.T. Leroy real-life alter ego Savannah Knoop of Tinc and eco-friendly denim pioneer Tierra Del Forte of Del Forte Denim are among the participating designers was enough to get our carbon offset, biofuel-powered engines running.

But add a redwood grove setting that’s positively gorge, organic eats, biodynamic wine and – oh yeah – a really great cause and we’re hooked like a teen on Twilight. The event is a benefit to raise funds for the care and maintenance of the garden’s 34 acres and 12,000 plant species.

When we spoke to Gala Program Coordinator Deepa Natarajan earlier this week, she told us that 70 percent of the garden’s funding comes from plant sales and fundraising efforts like this one. Along with its extensive collection of plants from around the world, the garden offers public programs that may appeal to fashion fans, including quarterly fiber dye workshops.

For more details, check out Lorraine’s post on the event on 7×7‘s Glamwatch blog, check out the official web site or call 510-643-7265 to purchase tickets ($95 in advance, $115 at the door).
