Gallery of Jewels Brings Local Bling to Union Square

Bringing locally-made bling and baubles to Union Square is the newest location of Gallery of Jewels, a San Francisco retailer with a 20+ year history in the City. With a Saturday opening bash on the horizon, it’s prime time to hit up the shop, where you’ll find at least 25 Bay Area lines on display and a general emphasis on work from small, independent artisans.

“We want to promote ¬†artists who are sitting at their benches making the jewelry and shy away from those involved in mass production,” says Bill Hoover, who owns the shop, as well as its Noe Valley and Pacific Heights locations, with his wife, Dona.

Step into the Post Street space for a wide variety of merchandise, including local names such as Sarah Swell, Carolyn Hunter, Gretchen Walker and Sakura Haru.

The shop also has a solid rep for custom work and repairs.

“Since we have access to so many great artisans at our fingertips, the store can pretty much build or repair anything. Repairs may include ring sizing and jewel replacement. We do a ton of custom orders, where clients can build a piece from scratch and even do stone cutting,” Hoover tells us.

Ready to go? An opening celebration takes place at the Post Street location on Saturday night from 6 to 9 p.m.
