Swap Talk: Give Two, Take One

G2T1-AAU-event

We hear from a reliable source (thanks, Ian) that there are already over 1,500 hundred items priced and ready-to-go for Saturday’s massive Give Two, Take One swap event taking place at the Academy of Art University’s 79 Gallery (79 New Montgomery St., SF). A benefit for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and its programs, the daytime style diversion allows you to unload the clothes you’re so over and exchange them for duds you can adore while consuming in an eco-friendly manner to boot.

But unlike most swaps (which, in our experience, easily devolve into mayhem and disorder), this one is taking an orderly approach: Academy students have been collecting and pricing donations for over a week (drop-off donations are being accepted until 3 p.m.on Friday at the gallery and on the day of the event). If you donate, admission is free. Otherwise, it’s a cool $2.

Also part of the event: a beauty bar and style team offering tips and advice, a raffle for Discarded to Divine tickets and live jazz tunes.

Shoe In: Accessories in Action Black Friday Benefit

accessories-in-action-event

How many pairs of unused shoes do you have kicking it in your closet? According to the fine folks behind this Friday’s Accessories in Action event at 111 Minna, Americans have some 1.5 billion unwanted pairs gathering dust in their homes.

A better place for them? With Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization that recycled secondhand shoes by giving them to people in need.

Bring a pair with you to this 21+ shopping fundraiser as you make the retail rounds on Black Friday, and you’ll get in the door for less ($5 instead of $8). Perhaps even more spectacular, we hear nothing at the event costs more than $100. On offer will be accessories from jewelry and bags to hats and belts, all by local independent designers.
