grdano_sale_june_2010

If there’s a San Francisco-based fashion label that’s getting the lion’s share of the fashion buzz lately, it’s got to be gr.dano. Not only was the brand selected recently for the California Design Biennial (past honorees have include the likes of Rodarte and Trina Turk), but we hear through our trusty sources that a slew of celebs and more than a few prominent fashion publications have been scoping the line for upcoming appearances and style shoots. For the time being, we’ll stay mum on the particulars, but suffice to say that this is one local label poised for recognition far beyond the Bay Area.

And that’s all the more reason to head to the first gr.dano trunk show and sample sale, taking place today and tomorrow at 440 Brannan Studio, where you’ll often find the label’s Jill Giordano and Brian Scheyer hard at work on the line. It’s a rare chance to snag current and past season items from the line at up to 80 percent off retail.

Museum Quality: gr.dano Chosen for California Design Biennial

jill-giordano-brian-scheyer-copyLocal designers Jill Giordano and Brian Scheyer of gr.dano will soon see their architectural women’s apparel in a setting that goes far beyond the racks. Beginning in July, the designers’ work will be featured in the prestigious California Design Biennial at the Pasadena Museum of California Art.

Titled Action/Reaction and featuring fashion honorees curated by former Women’s Wear Daily West Coast Bureau Chief Rose Apodaca, this year’s show continues the exhibition’s tradition of highlighting the most significant and innovative fashion, architectural, graphic and industrial designs produced in California over the last two years.

The exhibit puts gr.dano in especially esteemed company. Along with fellow 2010 honorees in the show such as Koi Suwannagate and Raven Kaufmann, past fashion honorees have included the likes of Rodarte, Magda Berliner, Phillip Lim and Trina Turk.

Want to view gr.dano locally? You’ll find the label at local stores such as Wonderland and 440 Brannan Studio.

The California Design Biennial will be on view July 18-Nov. 7, 2010.
