Snap Judgment: Bush + Leavenworth Mission Pullover

The Mission Pullover Hoody by Bush + Leavenworth features a slouchy neck, hood and side pockets at the waist.

Our very-visual, (almost) chatter-free snap judgment of the day: the guy-friendly take on a cozy cowl neck in the cotton-spandex Mission pullover hoody, $68, from the casual-cool fall collection of San Francisco-based menswear label Bush + Leavenworth.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Feb. 28-March 6

And just like that, bye bye to February. As we March ahead, we turn to the SF Indie Fashion Calendar in search of events sure to keep San Francisco fashion lovers entertained. Read on for our weekly dose of trunk sales, beauty happenings, fashion shows and places to shop from independent sources. Our pick of top San Francisco fashion events this week:

  • Once the weekend rolls around, events combining fashion, shopping and worthy causes abound. First up, there’s L’Affaire, a fashion show benefiting Project Night Night’s programs supporting children.
  • Saturday’s Mission United fete at Public Works (wow has this place been busy lately) offers a chance to celebrate one of our favorite neighborhoods with food, music, fashion and general Mission-approved debauchery. The fashion component of the event includes a trunk show and style installations by Five & Diamond, The Mission Statement, Isso, Miranda Caroligne and Unavakin, among others. Proceeds benefit worthy recipients such as the San Francisco General Hospital and its Dr. Rick Psychiatric Department Volunteer & Rehab Services, Root Division and SFSmiles.
  • Over the weekend, two daytime shopping events give San Franciscans reason to escape the City. Head north on Saturday to Greenbrae for the Marin Store Sample Sale, featuring local labels and designers such as Amy Fink, ANYI LU, Bettina, Gold & Citrus, Isharya, juleselin, Kathy Kamei, MENK and Mette Vangso. On both Saturday and Sunday, the annual Oakland Museum White Elephant Sale means a chance to hunt for secondhand and vintage treasures on offer during what’s considered to be the largest rummage sale in Northern California while helping to raise much-needed funds for the museum’s many programs.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

Boys, Meet Bush + Leavenworth

Sometimes where you’ve been is as important as where you’re going. Such is the case for San Francisco menswear designers Neth Nom and Guilherme Jacinto, who chose the intersection near the apartment they shared during their years at the Academy of Art as the name for their debut collection ($30-$65) of shirts and tees.

Starting with a small line consisting of eight tees, two button-downs and a vest, Bush + Leavenworth offerings reflect the designers’ work hard, play hard sensibilities. Animators at Pixar by day, Nom and Jacinto parlay their original artwork into graphic tees featuring such motifs as San Francisco-themed words, pine cones and skaters popping tricks, while button-down shirts and a cotton vest are both office-appropriate, yet hip enough to look good during post-work ventures to the bar.

Subtle details such as a strategically-placed side pocket and a three-panel shirt back make the button-downs different from all the rest hanging in your closet, but not so different that they lose versatility.

“Even though it’s different, it’s still wearable,” Nom tells us.
