SF Fashion Events: J-Pop Summit, SF Int’l Fashion Film Fest + More

If it’s local fashion you seek, there’s much to do in the week ahead. Start on Tuesday night with a visit to Terra Gallery for the Effen Vodka party and a showing of new work by San Francisco designer Bacca Da Silva. Later in the week, load up on last-minute looks for Burning Man during Wild Feather’s Pre-Playa Sale, shop local during 440 Brannan’s Mission Meets SoMa event featuring designers from The Mission Statement, scope out style on the silver screen at the San Francisco International Fashion Film Festival, meet the creative world of Fashionist’s Mai Le as part of the latest SF Creative Mornings event and, last but not least, get inspired by the magnificently edgy Japanese fashion on display throughout this year’s two-day J-Pop Summit.

Find details on these and other upcoming San Francisco fashion events waiting on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar. And of course, as you know, it doesn’t stop there. We’re adding new fashion happenings all the time, so check back often.

SF Fashion Events: Secession 5th Anniversary, Beyond the Fence + More

For independent fashion fun this week in San Francisco, we’ve got our eye on events for work and play. Wednesday’s SFFAMA Google+ Workshop at FIDM promises tips and tricks for leveraging the social media platform to its fullest. On Friday, a Lower Bernal/Mission destination for independent design celebrates five years with the Secession 5th Anniversary Party full of art, jewelry and apparel by established and emerging artists and designers. Once the weekend rolls around, pick up bits and bobs for Burning Man at the Beyond the Fence Trunk Show, hunt down deals at the BCBG Ella Moss Sample Sale or check out baubles and Serial Cultura apparel in the East Bay with a stop by Shibumi Gallery’s Summer Party.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Aug. 15-21

This week, a local gallery that flies under-the-radar, but is hugely important to the local art and design scene celebrates four years on Friday, and there are a variety of other stylish events to keep you entertained. You’ll find the details on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • If you’re on the hunt for hair feather extensions (which we decided are now officially mainstream after seeing them on someone performing at the CMA Awards, which we were so not watching, but accidentally viewing for like one second during a random channel flipping moment…), you can get ‘em this week at one of two FeatherLuxe extensions events in the Bay Area.
  • On Friday evening, head to the Secession Art & Design 4th Anniversary Party to celebrate this lower Bernal Heights gallery’s latest birthday. Headed up by Eden Stein, the space has been a hub for local artists and designers since its opening in 2007. Today, it’s home to resident artists such as jewelry designer Colleen Mauer and offers regular shows featuring apparel, accessories, art and objects for the home from a wide range of local talent handpicked by Stein.
  • Whether you’re heading to Burning Man or opting out of the desert this year, there are many reasons to check out the Five & Diamond Pre-Playa Loft Sale this weekend for chances to scope the latest from small, edgy indie labels such as Heathen, S&G and Kittinhawk.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events July 11-17

Like clique-busters chillin’ with a new crew on summer nights, Bay Area fashion folks and fine artists are hanging out together more than ever these days. This week, you’ll spot it happening at community-minded gallery opening in Alameda, during a fashion show in an Oakland arts space, in a hip Mission boutique and at the first Prepare for the Playa event of the summer. As always, you’ll find the details and more upcoming San Francisco fashion events on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • While fine arts and fashion are the theme this week, you can still get your shop on during Simply Chic’s Chanel Lovers event on Wednesday night and at Gump’s on Thursday evening, when Jendarling Bags presents its latest luxury garment bags and accessories at the iconic department store during the EQ Show launch event.
  • Thursday’s opening party for the new Redux Studios & Gallery in Alameda brings a reason to hit the highway. A project from St. Vinvent de Paul of Alameda County, the venue sells apparel, accessories and art made from recycled and reclaimed materials, offers community workshops, monthly art shows and affordable studio space for artists.
  • On Friday, fashion and the arts once again join forces during F3 at the Cotton Mill, which features a slew of local artists and a fashion show that includes local designer Ken Chen and Zoe Hong, among others. Another chance to take in fashion and fine art at the same time comes from the Mission’s Belljar, which opens its Precipice show amid its selection of lovely wearables and items for the home with a reception on Friday evening.
  • If Burning Man is on your to-do list this summer, you can start getting prepped at Sunday’s Prepare for the Playa event, full of “burner-preneurs” selling apparel, accessories and accoutrements for the annual desert extravaganza.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

Runway Recap: Burning Man Fashion at Prepare for the Playa

Burners, this one’s for you. Last weekend’s Prepare for the Playa event featured a far-out fashion show packed with apparel and accessories designed especially with Burning Man in mind. Missed it? Don’t fret. You’ll get another chance to scoop up Playa-friendly fashions when the event returns to Cafe Cocomo on Aug. 15.

In the meantime, peruse these images from Sunday’s event. Want more (including a fairly scandalous bodysuit that we just couldn’t bring our prudish selves to post)? Check out the online gallery.
