Runway Recap: Passport To Rio Fashion Show

The Passport to Rio Fashion Show that took place at the Clift Hotel late last month appealed with a line-up of independently-designed apparel from online fashion marketplace nelou amped up with the help and style-minded eye of event producer and longtime local stylist Bianca of Bianca Starr productions.

Along with a festive vibe, lots of creative ensembles in the crowd and a Brazilian-style performance as the grand finale, the show featured an assortment of looks that you won’t see everywhere else.

Below, some shots from the night. You can view more Passport to Rio images on our Facebook page. For more on nelou, check out our recent interview with founder Regine Harr.

SF Fashion Events: 3 Fashion Shows, Urban Air Market + More

If you like a session beside the runway, this week’s for you. The only problem: a trio of worthy shows on the same night. We’ll let you decide how to fill up your dance card. Will it be the invite-only Academy of Art Fashion Show (there’s a public repeat on Sunday, though minus the presence of special guest such as Alexander McQueen’s Sara Burton), Runway 2012: Defined featuring San Francisco State University graduating designers’ collections or Bianca Starr’s Spring Forward Fashion Show with apparel from Wonderland, Sui Generis, Density Dept and Top Shelf? While you’re figuring that one out, look ahead to the weekend, when you’ll have the chance to engage in more independent fashion adventures during the return of Artwear at the de Young and Urban Air Market.

Style Starr: Bianca Starr’s Stylist Boutique

When we popped into the opening party celebrating the very first stylist boutique at Mission vintage destination Bianca Starr on Friday evening, we were first delighted by the window display from San Francisco stylist Hannah Sitzer of Antlre creative. Complete with a star, animal-headed mannequin and soaring white mini-motorcycle, the installation could have easily been plucked from some hazy, exhilarating dream.

Once inside and flipping through the garments on offer from Sitzer’s personal collection of vintage pieces, we promptly fell in love with a leopard swing coat (faux, of course) that the stylist’s mother had passed on to her many years before. We’d have loved it without the story attached, but there’s just something endlessly special about knowing the history behind a garment and remembering it wear after wear.

There were many other choice pieces, from frilly white vintage shirts to a metallic zip-up jacket. We wouldn’t be surprised if they’re gone long before the April 1 switch to the next stylist-curated batch of offerings, which will be handpicked by Jasmine Hamed.

Also on offer are rock-goes-lovely earrings in leather, feathers and metal by Venus Superstar and plenty of fun vintage finds gracing the racks and shelves.
