Runway Recap: Spring into Fall

At last week’s Spring into Fall runway show at the Bently Reserve, darkly elegant apparel dominated the long, raised runway. While the apparel shown was nothing if not diverse, a steampunk aesthetic in pieces from several designers created a common thread.

At the same time, the intricately-wrought and notably complex construction of the garments by Sequoia & Gita, Gelareh Alam, Dark Garden Unique Corsetry, Sara Shepherd and Rebecca Bruce and headpieces from Miss G Designs and Dollymop was another defining characteristic of the evening’s best pieces. Jewelry by Amber Marie Bently and shoes by Kailia appeared throughout the show.

Below, shots from the fashion show, which impressed not only with fashion, but also with its overall opulence: a raised runway and a large screen projecting garments live during the event added to the appeal.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events March 7-13

The bad news? You’re gonna lose an hour of sleep this weekend. But keeping things firmly on the up and up this week are plenty of events sure to entertain San Francisco fashion fans. For that, we turn to the SF Indie Fashion Calendar. Read on for our weekly dose of trunk sales, beauty happenings, fashion shows and places to shop from independent sources:

  • On Tuesday, surround yourself in luxe local style during the Azadeh Couture trunk show and collection viewing. It’s a chance to see the local label’s refined women’s apparel and party-worthy dresses on display in a sophisticated setting.
  • Friday’s Spring into Fall Fashion Show promises locally-designed apparel and jewelry heading down the runway surrounded by the always-impressive interiors of the Bently Reserve. The cheapest tickets have already sold out, but here’s the good news: you can still buy your way into the choicest rows. Want to sit in the front row? It’ll run you $150, but take heart, as the proceeds go towards a good cause: The Coral Reef Alliance. A few of the participating designers include Amber Marie Bently, Miss G Designs, Sara Shepherd and Sequoia & Gita.
  • On Saturday, head to one of the few “fashion shows” that you might unwittingly already be a part of. Street Threads: The Show celebrates local photographer Ariel Soto’s years of capturing San Francisco street fashion. The event at Density doubles as the launch of Soto’s self-published book Street Threads, which features over 100 photographs of locals sporting noteworthy street style.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.
