Video: 5 Minutes with Erin Fetherston

Bay Area native and U.C. Berkeley grad Erin Fetherston may have left the West Coast for the wilds of Paris and, more recently, New York, but that hasn’t stopped many a San Francisco fashion fan from following her path as if she were still a hometown gal.

Want the inside story on Fetherston’s successes, which include shows at Bryant Park and inventive projects such as a short film featuring actress Kirsten Dunst donning her fall-winter collection from 2005-2006? Then you’ll love Designing Minds: Erin Fetherston, a five-minute foray into Fetherston’s world courtesy of the Zoom-In Online video network.

Enjoy! We sure did….

Adventures in Etsy Local: Vintage Boots, Nude Cuff, Bone Hoops

We love a scouring session on etsy shop local for finding unique, affordable clothing and accessories from San Francisco designers and vintage dealers. Here are three picks from a recent etsy adventure that made us stop, stare and start saying gimme gimme.

Dungaroo Boots from dirtybirdvintage. At $36, these rust leather vintage boots in size 6.5 are a steal. Love the gold detail on the toe – just the tiniest hint of glam.

Periodic Flesh Cuff by transaction. The word on the street is that nude is in for spring (the color palette, folks). This vegetable-tanned leather cuff screen printed with water-based ink embraces the pale, but does it on its own terms. If it could speak, we think it would say, I’ll gladly kick some ass just as soon as I polish off that bio-chem PHD.

Bone Loop Hoops by Ach Ach Liebling. We dig the primitive simplicity of tea-stained bone hoops hanging from hammered silver circles. It’s a natural look we could quickly see being out on constant repeat in our wardrobe mix.

Indi Denim: The Final Chapter – Plus Free Jeans for You

indi-denim-trouser-jeansDying to know how our experience with indiDenim turned out? As you may recall, we visited the Emeryville-based company in January to try out the indiDenim Intellifit body scanner and order a new pair of jeans based on its high-tech measurements.

The jeans were ready within the four to six week time frame, so I headed into the indiDenim office for my final fitting. As I tried on the pair of trouser jeans I’d ordered (which look much like the jeans pictured here), I found myself wishing, hoping, crossing my fingers for a great fit. After all, the company did go out of its way to invite me in after the series of posts I’d written on this blog, and I was cringing at the thought of a negative turn-out.

But let’s hear it for modern technology, because the jeans fit almost perfectly. Barring a slight – very slight – tuck I’d take in the waist if I were in uber picky mode, they fit my body exactly as they should. The result is a super comfortable pair of jeans that I’ve found myself wearing multiple times a week.

And this time around, instead of offering up images of myself in the jeans as I did in past posts, I’ve got a different kind of gift to offer SF Indie Fashion readers. indiDenim has generously agreed to give the indiDenim Design Studio experience to one reader, whom I’ll be choosing over the next week. The winner will receive a gift card worth $170, a consultation with an indiDenim design consultant, an Intellifit body scan, ordering assistance for designing a great pair of jeans and a follow-up fitting when jeans arrive.

While I can’t restrict this offer to residents of the Bay Area, you’ll get the most out of it if you’re able to visit the indiDenim Design Studio in person, so keep that in mind.

Here’s how to win: leave a comment below (make sure to include a valid email address when you submit it). Comments will be accepted for the drawing until 11:59 p.m. (PST) on April 7, 2009. If you comment, your email address will go into a grab bag, and I’ll choose the winner April 8. Good luck!

Chaiken Spring 2009 Sample Sale This Week

chaiken_s09samplesalesf

As fans of Chaiken’s always-chic, versatile women’s apparel and accessories, we were oh-so puh-leased to learn that the San Francisco-based company’s Spring 2009 Sample Sale starts tomorrow. It’s an ideal label to try alongside the recessionista (blek, we hate that word, too, but we used it anyway) shopping strategy of spending a little more on classic pieces that will span many seasons and contribute to the foundations of a wardrobe, rather than just contributing weight to hangers in the closet….

Stop by the SoMa headquarters for up to 70 percent off looks from the current collection.
