The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events March 28-April 3

Fashion for a good cause dominates the SF Indie Fashion Calendar in the days and weeks ahead. Read on for the details on two fund-raising fashion shows this week, as well as our regular weekly dose of trunk sales, beauty happenings and opps to shop from independent sources in San Francisco:

  • Ethical fashion is the topic of the night during an Global Action Through Fashion event on Tuesday at SoMa’s The Hub. Green Content in Online Media features speakers from Ecofabulous and EcoSalon in a panel discussion focused on the many ways online media can be used to educate consumers about ethical fashion choices and eco-minded fashion industry innovations.
  • On Thursday, the official opening party for Sui Generis Illa Boutique brings a chance to sip bubbly while commiserating with other fans of the shop’s high-end consignment and apparel by emerging labels. We hear the top dandy of them all, Patrick McDonald, will be making an appearance at the sure-to-be-fun fete.
  • Also on Thursday, Appel & Frank Spring into Style brings a chance to scoop up locally-made apparel and accessories from 65+ vendors, indulge in mini beauty treatments and – hilariously enough – meet David Good and Jesse Kovacs of ABC’s The Bachelor Pad (whose group kissing challenge brought reality TV to new levels of germ-sharing last fall). The boys will be there signing their books. Attendees receive a free glass of wine and a gift bag. SF Indie Fashion readers can save 20 percent on the ticket price (reg. $10) with the discount code appelandfrank20 when they purchase advance tickets. We’ve also got a few pairs of free passes to give away, so be sure to check our Facebook page and Twitter for those this week.
  • Once the weekend rolls around, you’ve got two chances to enjoy fashion for a good cause. Billed as the largest fashion show on the West Coast, Charity Fashion Show relocates to San Francisco from Stanford for the first time this year. Benefiting the Princess Project, the show features apparel from both mainstream (Gap, Milly, Tracy Reese) and emerging designers (Aksel Paris, Frock LA, Paul’s Hatworks) from the Bay Area and beyond. On the same night, the Give Back Gala raises funds for Career Closet and Women Inc with a dinner, silent auction and fashion show featuring FIDM alums such as Ericka Engelman and RockChiq’s Indu Arora.

You can find details on all of these events and more happening this week on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

SF Indie Fashion News Roundup

Irena-Kudlicki-NecklaceWe’re obsessed with this wine-storing bra. If you see us with double d’s next time, you’ll know what’s up. In other news….

Reports from NBC Bay Area of a fashion designer possibly caught up in drugs (oh my!) and missing in the Bay Area (the scandal!) caught our attention yesterday.

Speaking of NBC Bay Area, we are pleased to announce that the revamped destination for local news is now carrying select content from SF Indie Fashion. Check the site’s Around Town section for more great local fashion and shopping coverage.

Congrats to the winners of the San Francisco Fashion Awards, announced over the weekend. We’re glad to see local designers and fashion supporters getting recognized for their hard work.

Amy Leblanc, who won the best blogger award, shared what we think are some provocative, interesting and very worthwhile thoughts on the event and whether it cast a wide enough net this year.

Up-and-comers, take note: we hear that Arieff Communications is looking for a fall intern with an interest or experience in fashion and public relations.

A San Francisco destination for hard-to-find denim labels since 2006, Self Edge has opened up a new store in New York that was profiled this week on New York magazine’s The Cut.

The Museum of Craft and Folk Art has launched an online store. We are especially enamored of the Irena Kudlicki necklace (pictured), part of the museum’s summer collection now available for purchase in-store and online.

AliceandIsa now offers private parties for groups of eight or more. Tap the ladies behind this new online retail destination for local designers to schedule a private showing, and you’ll receive 20 percent off your purchases during the event.

Appel and Frank’s Chic Summer Soiree shopping event is coming up on Aug. 13. We’ll be announcing this again and again in the coming days, but we’re happy to be able to offer all SF Indie Fashion readers free tickets (reg. $10) to the event. Just use the discount code SFINDIEFASHION when you RSVP on the web site.

The folks at the Chron have been hitting up all kinds of indie-minded fashion events these days. Check out their take on two recent events – the Green Gala at UC Berkeley and the Fashion Food Wine – here and here.
