Style Starr: Bianca Starr’s Stylist Boutique

March 7th, 2010

When we popped into the opening party celebrating the very first stylist boutique at Mission vintage destination Bianca Starr on Friday evening, we were first delighted by the window display from San Francisco stylist Hannah Sitzer of Antlre creative. Complete with a star, animal-headed mannequin and soaring white mini-motorcycle, the installation could have easily been plucked from some hazy, exhilarating dream.

Once inside and flipping through the garments on offer from Sitzer’s personal collection of vintage pieces, we promptly fell in love with a leopard swing coat (faux, of course) that the stylist’s mother had passed on to her many years before. We’d have loved it without the story attached, but there’s just something endlessly special about knowing the history behind a garment and remembering it wear after wear.

There were many other choice pieces, from frilly white vintage shirts to a metallic zip-up jacket. We wouldn’t be surprised if they’re gone long before the April 1 switch to the next stylist-curated batch of offerings, which will be handpicked by Jasmine Hamed.

Also on offer are rock-goes-lovely earrings in leather, feathers and metal by Venus Superstar and plenty of fun vintage finds gracing the racks and shelves.

News: SF Stylist on the Red Carpet at the Oscars, Custom T-shirts, New Merch + More

March 5th, 2010

seventh-heart-daddy-teeSometimes, when someone asks to borrow your pen, you should just say no. In other news…

Clearly, you’re likely to catch a glimpse of the Oscars this weekend. While you’re scanning the red carpet, be on the lookout for San Francisco stylist Keylee Sanders, who’ll be broadcasting live in a Karen Caldwell gown during a segment for the TV Guide Channel. She’ll be dishing styling tips and secrets celebs use underneath it all before braving high-profile events.

We’re always glad to hear any news that’s remotely to do with San Francisco native Alexander Wang. This week, we hear shirts from his T line have arrived at Russian Hill boutique anica, and Acrimony is anticipating the arrival of Alexander Wang sunglasses on April 1.

The Seventh Heart is printing its limited edition Daddy tee one last time. Talk about an oh-so-San Francisco t-shirt. We may start giving these out as gifts to out-of-town visitors. Because this is a limited run, you’ll have to pre-order from the shop to get one.

The Marin Store becomes the exclusive retailer of Sarah Swell’s new Cascade line of jewelry. For those of you in Marin, the online shop is also having a sample sale at Larkspur Landing this weekend.

The Academy of Art has been getting major props from major fashion publications such as WWD and the New York Times for six students’ work shown during New York Fashion Week.

Love The 2 Bandits? You’re in luck right now, as select bandits are 30 percent off in the online shop.

Feeling especially deal-y today? You’ll find a slew of ways to save on local finds on 7×7 Glamwatch today.

Rare Device is beefing up its selection of goods for babies and kids. Stay tuned for the arrival later this month of a new in-store mini-shop dedicated to gifts and items for little ones.

Mention “To Haiti with Love,” and you’ll get 30 percent off any spa service at Cocoon Urban Day Spa tomorrow. Better yet, all profits benefit efforts to help children in Haiti.

Custom Industries now allows shoppers to customize their own shirts online. Pick your color, sleeve length, desired print and placement for a shirt that’s all your own.

Chrome has a slew of new shoe colors in stock. Sweetening the deal is free ground shipping both ways with the code shoes0310.

Students at City College of San Francisco are looking for local designers to participate in an upcoming fashion show. For more information, email syedalee (at) aol (dot) com.

Wanted: Covet Hayes Valley Opens

March 4th, 2010

You know when you really want something? Like really, really want it? A new Hayes Valley destination hopes to inspire just those kinds of covetous feelings in San Francisco shoppers with its selection of locally-made jewelry, handbags and gift items.

The second outpost of Covet opened quietly in the neighborhood last month, and we hear a grand opening celebration is on the horizon.

“We are really excited about the new store.  It has more wall space, so we can carry more purses and other accessories than the Arguello store,” says Adrienne Wiley of Frolick Jewelry, who co-owns both stores with Ofina Jewelry designer Liza Anongchanya.

With the added space comes the addition of new lines, including bags by De La Luna, Lulla Belle and Shara Porter, as well as candles by Urban Rituelle and stationery by Papaya.

See it for yourself at 415 Hayes St., San Francisco, CA.
