Curious what went down the runway at Fashion Week – The Reinvention, held last weekend at the Vitaminwater Social Club? Here are four looks that caught our eye.
Perfect with a Tank: Super Sugar Ray Ray Ruffle Skirt
Super Sugar Ray Ray designer Rachel Riggin recently started making cute, cotton ruffle skirts that pull on with easy, summer-appropriate ease.
When we asked her how to wear them best, and she had this to say:
“They are great with leggings and slouchy boots. I have a pair of the metallic silver American Apparel leggings that I love wearing with the metallic silver pinstripe skirt. Or if i’m really planning on working it out on the dance floor, I’ll wear a striped skirt with bare legs and bright sneakers.”
Sure, you’ve got to be into ruffles and bold hues to pull off the skirt shown here, but Riggin offers more sedate versions in grey eco-friendly bamboo fabric.
What to wear on top?
Suggests Riggin:
“Definitely a long, fitted shirt looks great, even a long wife-beater style tank looks good. A long tube top would be cute, too.”
Ruffles skirts ($67) are available in the Super Sugar Ray Ray etsy shop.
Snap Judgment: O’Lover Straw Hats
Our very-visual, (almost) chatter-free snap judgment of the day: perfect-for-summer, hand-formed straw hats, $125-$195, by O’Lover Hats, a label by Oakland milliner Elwyn Crawford.
Runway Recap: Burning Man Fashion at Prepare for the Playa
Burners, this one’s for you. Last weekend’s Prepare for the Playa event featured a far-out fashion show packed with apparel and accessories designed especially with Burning Man in mind. Missed it? Don’t fret. You’ll get another chance to scoop up Playa-friendly fashions when the event returns to Cafe Cocomo on Aug. 15.
In the meantime, peruse these images from Sunday’s event. Want more (including a fairly scandalous bodysuit that we just couldn’t bring our prudish selves to post)? Check out the online gallery.

Looking Fine: Taylor Stitch Ready-to-Wear Shirts
One thing we always appreciate: a well-dressed man. Finding proper toppers for the men in your life is now a little easier, thanks to new ready-to-wear men’s shirts from San Francisco-based Taylor Stitch.
Best known for its custom men’s dress shirts, the local company recently released a collection ($150-$175) of seven new shirts in both solids and prints. All shirts are handmade in San Francisco using single needle tailoring, French interlinings, Corozo buttons and Japanese milled cotton.
Looking for a custom shirt tailored to your specs? Set up an appointment, and one of the company’s three founders will visit you in person to take your measurements and design your shirt on the spot.
In the meantime, you can amuse yourself with images culled from the label’s latest lookbook, featuring easy-on-the-eyes guys from Scribe Winery, Four Barrel Coffee, Dwell magazine and – of course – Taylor Stitch itself.
