Sponsor Love: New Daisy’s Vintage Online Shop

June 5th, 2009

daisys-vintage-1

Ah, Friday. A lovely day for good news. And here’s some for SF Indie Fashion readers: Daisy’s Vintage, one of our favorite sources for vintage dresses, has launched an online store stocked with retro-minded frocks we can’t wait to dig into for summer.

Previously only available during trunk shows and shopping events, the extensive inventory of 1970’s and 1980’s dresses from local vintage maven and Daisy’s Vintage founder Nancy Sepaher emphasizes flirty, feminine numbers in bright hues and patterns. Each has been carefully tweaked by Sepaher, who shortens hems and makes other simple alterations to ensure that each piece arrives with a modern fit.

Available in sizes small, medium and large, dresses are reasonably priced (most are $35-$55) and shown online with suggested measurements that help take some of the guesswork out of the online vintage shopping experience.

We highly recommend a spin around the site for more dresses like the ones you see here.

We’re Giving Away $100 in Yummie Tummie Shapewear

May 1st, 2009

We always thought shapewear was a wee bit embarrassing. ‘Cause nothing kills the mood quite like a spandex tube the color of nude pantyhose suddenly arriving on the scene of what might otherwise have been the ramp-up to an evening of unbridled lurve.

So you can probably imagine that we were most intrigued by Yummie Tummie, a California-based company that puts some sexy in its shapewear. It’s no accident that we refer to “the sexy” at this juncture. Yummie Tummie founder and designer Heather Thompson, whom we had the pleasure of meeting a few weeks back while she was visiting the City by the Bay, spent several years working right alongside P. Diddy, the man we credit with popularizing “sexy” in its previously non-existent noun form.

But we digress, as often happens on a Friday. Back to the point. We dig Yummie Tummie’s approach to keeping the curves in check (hello, animal print), so we’re giving away a $100 credit to the online store to one SF Indie Fashion reader. To win, leave a comment in response to this post by midnight on May 8, 2009 (next Friday). We’ll randomly select one winner the following day. Good luck!

Sponsor Love: Michelle Obama Dresses from New Orleans

April 17th, 2009

If you follow the First Lady and like her style, then we’re willing to wager you’ll be interested in The Obama Dress, an all-in-one site and online store where you can buy the most popular Michelle Obama dresses.

Featured here is the Tracy Reese lace kimono design that the First Lady donned for People magazine. The independent New Orleans-based company behind the dresses makes each one, so they’re able to charge about one-third of what you’d pay to purchase the official designer dresses off-the-rack.

Many of the dresses and outfits worn by the First Lady are tough (if not impossible) to find these days, so it’s sweet to see custom versions in one location.

Along with the Tracy Reese design shown here, you’ll also find the online store stocked with a custom version of the Michelle Obama dress from The View. We recommend a visit to the site to see all the dresses currently available and to vote on which Michelle Obama dress you’d like to see them make next.

Swag Bag: SF Indie Fashion Exclusive

November 7th, 2008

questionmarkclipart2.jpgWe love Fridays, and we also love good deals on fashion finds from designers and companies we love. The two just seem to go together so nicely, don’t they?

For this week’s SF Indie Fashion Friday Exclusive, we are doing something a little different. Instead of promoting one company’s special offers, we are promoting ourselves. That’s our D.I.Y. spirit kicking in.

To do that, we’re giving away one bag full of sweet swag to an SF Indie Fashion reader. After all, free fashion goodies need not be the exclusive territory of industry peeps and journalists.

We won’t list the exact contents of the SF Indie Fashion swag bag here (that’s part of the fun), but we will tell you your spoils will consist of both indie and mainstream products from the Bay Area and beyond, including items from Bare Escentuals, Honeydew, Que Lastima, Uba Wear, Manic Trout, Borba Skin Care and more. Even if you don’t use the items yourself, just think of the holiday gifting and stocking-stuffer possibilities.

There’s only one swag bag to be had. Here’s how you can snag it:

1. Link to this post on your blog, Facebook or Myspace page or on another social networking site. Be sure to email editor (at) sfindiefashion (dot) com with a live link so we can see the post.

2. Include a link to this post in your newsletter. Be sure to put editor (at) sfindiefashion (dot) com on your mailing list, so we’ll have a copy of the newsletter.

3. Send an email to at least three friends with a link to this post in the body of the message. CC editor (at) sfindiefashion (dot) com on the email.

The contest will close at exactly 11:59 p.m. on Friday Nov. 21, 2008. SF Indie Fashion will use the old-fashioned hat method to randomly select the winner, who will be notified via email on Saturday Nov. 22, 2008.

Good luck!

Pushing Daisies: SF Indie Fashion Friday Exclusive

October 17th, 2008

We love Fridays, and we also love good deals. The two just seem to go together so nicely, don’t they?

We’re comin’ atcha this week with a special deal from retro-minded fashion maven Nancy S., the mind behind the magic at Daisy’s Vintage. Love the old school, demure look of a vintage dress? We sure do. If you feel the same, schedule a private trunk show and vintage dress party with Daisy’s Vintage, round up a bunch of bodies (10 or more works best) and let Nancy do the rest.

She’ll arrive with 70+ authentic vintage frocks hand-picked during her adventures sleuthing for treasures born in eras gone by. During each three-hour dress party, your guests may try on Nancy’s inventory of dresses (typically sizes 0 to 12) to their hearts’ content, and no dress will cost more than $20 a pop. When it’s all said and done, you, wonderful and fantabulous hostess that you are, will keep 10 percent of the evening’s profits.

Of course, you’ll probably want to channel your new-found fundage back into Nancy’s hands and pluck another dress from the racks. After all, the best hostesses are the ones who know how to indulge without paying for it the next day.
