Stylish ways to step into October: head to the Peninsula’s Crimson Mim for a Freda Salvador Trunk Show featuring the Bay Area label’s debut footwear line, venture north to Marin for the Zohba flagship store opening from the eponymous activewear label or save your energy for the weekend, when Secession Art + Design hosts an opening reception for its latest show and Beats for Boobs brings a fashion show with local designers to mezzanine in support of breast cancer non-profits.
San Francisco Fashion Week is here (yes, we have one. No, it is not like the one in New York). A hybrid business networking opp for locals in the industry and people-pleaser with fashion shows featuring Bay Area designers and labels, the week-long series of events includes panels, parties and runway shows, as well as an evening expo focused on fashion and technology. Fashion and tech is also the theme of this week’s Studio64 event at Temple, while Bay Area Fashion Week (yup, another, unrelated one) continues and a book signing featuring Michael Kors Creative Director Andrea Linett promises to draw local fashion fans out to Mission boutique Mira Mira.
The week ahead in San Francisco fashion promises plenty of chances to shop and mingle among independent fashion sources. All week, online custom clothier Indochino will be in town and taking private appointments for made-to-order menswear. Indulge your shoe fetish on Thursday at La Boutique, where local fashion fans will be celebrating the in-store arrival of Bay Area footwear label Freda Salvador’s debut collection (be sure to email the shop to RSVP if you’d like to attend). More diversions come in the form of the Bay Area Fashion Week kick-off on the Peninsula, the always-entertaining Vintage Fashion Expo, Score Swap at The Bold Italic and a night of erotic art and fetish fashion at Gallery 4N5.
Well, hello, September. Suddenly, we’re almost in the middle of you. Quelle surprise! But onto this week’s events. Monday night, we’re heading to the SEE Eyewear VIP Opening Party on Market Street, where Project Runway‘s Mondo Guerra will be turning up. On Thursday, shop for a worthy cause during Conifer’s Fall Shopping Night benefiting the Homeless Prenatal Program. Once the weekend rolls around, prep for Saturday trunk shows from local sources such as Camilla Olson, Serial Cultura and Clary Sage Organics. Close it all out at the Urban Air Market, the massive outdoor independent fashion, design and art festival that hits Hayes Valley twice a year.
And just like that, we’re jumping with two feet right into fall. As we’re sure you’re well aware, New York Fashion Week kicks off on Friday, and that means a slew of Fashion’s Night Out events happening around town on Thursday – and a solid number feature local boutiques and independent designers. We’re also super-enthused about a 31 Rax Vintage Clothing Workshop on shopping, styling and caring for vintage clothing that’s part of the three-day Skill Exchange Workshop Series taking place this weekend. Also ahead and worthy of a look-see are the Kearny Street Workshop Runway Fashion Show, Indie Mart and – midweek – a beauty event for the curly-haired at Festoon Salon.
