Among the stylish San Francisco happenings to look forward to this week are a jewelry class taught by a longtime local designer, a breast cancer fashion fundraiser, a Hayes Valley trunk show and a two-day indie shopping opp. Intrigued? You’ll find the details on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • Flex your D.I.Y. skills on Tuesday night at Workshop, where local jewelry designer Shana Astrachan teaches a one-night jewelry class – DIY Jewelry: Feathers, Leather and Chains - that will leave you looping, connecting jump rings, distressing chains and generally on your way to at-home jewelry triumph. You’ll leave with two pairs of earrings and a necklace, as well as plenty of new skills.
  • On Friday, celebrate in the name of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Beats for Boobs, a fundraiser fashion event featuring a runway show that includes Bay Area labels such as Danielle the Dressmaker, Presh Design Collective, Miss G Designs and others. Held at mezzanine, this is the event to attend this week if you’d like to support a worthy cause while downing cocktails, dancing and engaging in general Friday night mayhem.
  • Also on Friday evening, a Metalsmith trunk show featuring the San Francisco-based jewelry line alongside art by painter Jennifer Mercede is a reason to swing by Ver Unica in Hayes Valley either on your way home or on your way out.
  • Finish off the week by shopping independent during Urban Bazaar’s two-day Vagabond Indie Craft Fair. Taking place on both Saturday and Sunday, the event showcases a variety of work (from Steampunk accessories to baby clothes) from socially-responsible, independent artists and designers, including Hikari Designs, Stone Valentine and By Nieves.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Sept. 26-Oct. 2

If you love fashion and you’re in the Bay Area, then Thursday night’s your night to shine this week. The-night-before-the-weekend-starts holds serious style promise, thanks to fashion for a good cause, trunk shows and parties at local boutiques. You’ll find the details on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • Yes, we said Thursday is your night to shine. But first, rev up on Wednesday during the Ali Golden and Marisa Haskell Trunk Show at Hayes Valley shop Reliquary. Along with wine and friendly fashionable faces, reasons to go include Golden’s versatile fall line and a new collection from Haskell.
  • Come Thursday, you won’t be hurting for options if it’s a style fix you seek. Fashion for a good cause will be in effect during Define: Beauty Fashion Show, a benefit from San Francisco non-profit Groundwork Opportunities featuring work from labels such as Menk, Sarah Liller, Retrofit Republic, Daniel Sudar, Dallas Coulter, Ken Chen, Kajan Padraig and Cari Borja.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events Aug. 22-28

This week, a long-awaited runway fashion event, Pinterest meet-up, fair trade shopping bazaar and an annual awards ceremony feting the local fashion community are here to get you out and about in independent, consciously-consumerist style. You’ll find the details on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • If you’re stuck on Pinterest, head east on Thursday to mingle IRL with likeminded pinners during the Bay Area Pinterest Meet-Up taking place at the Emeryville West Elm. We hear there will be deals to be had, but the real reason to go is putting faces with the names of your favorite Bay Area boards.
  • Shopping fair trade becomes an experience in the arts during the Fine Arts Museums’ Fair Trade Bazaar at the de Young. Head over on Friday and Saturday for jewelry, textiles and decorative accessories made by artisans from around the world.
  • Saturday night brings The Collection, the San Francisco Bay Area Fashion Network’s long-anticipated runway event featuring local names Daniel Sudar, Acta Non Verba and Joseph Domingo in three separate runway shows spanning the afternoon and evening. Set in the slick surroundings of the British Motor Car venue, the fashion shows start at 4 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit nonprofit Dress for Success.
  • Come Sunday, party by the pool at the Hotel Phoenix in celebration of the local fashion scene during the San Francisco Fashion Awards, an annual event presented by Del Geronimo that highlights designers, models, makeup artists, bloggers, fashion show producers and others involved in Bay Area fashion throughout the year.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events July 18-24

Summah, summah-ty-ime. This week we hope to be able to press pause on the space heater humming away in the corner and welcome a hint of sun. But no matter what happens, we’ll be warming up to local fashion events. A few of our favorite San Francisco fashion happenings follow, and, as always, you’ll find the details on these and more on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar.

  • We hope there are three of you on Thursday night, because there are three worthy events happening at exactly the same time. So step one, clone yourself (then do it again). Next head to 440 Brannan Studio for Jonathan Rising, an event featuring the Japanese-inspired knitwear of Academy of Art and Rodarte alum Jonathan David Baker at 44o Brannan Studio. Adding to the intrigue, the event promises sushi and sake.
  • Across Market Street in a very stylish shop, those on the list will gather to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Poetic and Chic, the art- and fashion-minded blog from local writer and designer Annie Wilson. Who knows, maybe we’ll see you there.
  • Over in Hayes Valley on the same night, fans of style blogger Jessica Quirk’s What I Wore blog will congregate to celebrate her new book of the same name at Azalea boutique during an event hosted by ShopItToMe.
  • Sunday marks the return of Indie Mart after an eight-month hiatus. As you might expect, it’s sure to be full of debaucherous D.I.Y., local fashion, music and interactive antics ranging from sexy makeovers by Fox & Doll to terrarium making with Flora Grubb. Admission is a $3-$5 sliding scale suggested donation, and all proceeds go toward founder Kelly Malone’s ongoing cancer treatments.

The Do List: San Francisco Fashion Events June 27-July 4

With a holiday weekend on the horizon, we’re practically punchy with excitement. Good thing we have ample stylish adventures to keep us occupied. As always, you’ll find this week’s top San Francisco fashion events on the SF Indie Fashion Calendar, and we’ve called out a few favorites below.

  • We love a good Tuesday night diversion, and this week Russian Hill’s Beauty Company has one on tap. Stop by the Gemini Jewels Trunk Show that night to view jewelry and accessories from Colleen Mauer, Antonia Sloan and Sasha Maks Vintage. We hear from Sasha that she’ll be bringing new finds that haven’t been shown elsewhere yet, including 60′s and 70′s-era baubles from names such as Trifari, Napier, Kenneth Lane and Givenchy.
  • On Thursday, we’d highly recommend getting the long weekend started early by stepping out in the name of local fashion. Looks from local designers such as Kajan Padraig, Anya Tatarenko, LHC Couture and Alyphyn Industries will be hitting the runway at Madrone Studios during Pret-A-Porter, an annual San Francisco fashion show from the San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance.
  • A benefit for Bay Area-based nonprofit Global Action through Fashion will no doubt draw many eco-minded fashionphiles to SoMa on Thursday night for a symposium and cocktail reception dubbed Justice in the Fashion Industry. Your ticket not only supports the worthy organization backed by ethical fashion advocate Domenica Peterson, but also offers a chance to learn about possible solutions for a more ethical fashion industry during presentations by Lulan Artisans and Gap.
  • Once the weekend rolls around, those interested in the intersection of food and fashion can head east for a trunk show and artist’s reception featuring designer Cari Borja’s Chez Panisse collection, inspired by her internship at the famed restaurant.
