Whether or not you’re attending tonight’s Discarded to Divine event benefiting the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco and its social services programs, we’re betting you can appreciate the work that went into this cocktail dress of Fiji Water bottles by Project Runway contestant and San Francisco designer Jay Nicolas Sario, who told us last week that he, in fact, drank every bottle of water involved in this little number’s creation.

Swap Talk: Give Two, Take One

G2T1-AAU-event

We hear from a reliable source (thanks, Ian) that there are already over 1,500 hundred items priced and ready-to-go for Saturday’s massive Give Two, Take One swap event taking place at the Academy of Art University’s 79 Gallery (79 New Montgomery St., SF). A benefit for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and its programs, the daytime style diversion allows you to unload the clothes you’re so over and exchange them for duds you can adore while consuming in an eco-friendly manner to boot.

But unlike most swaps (which, in our experience, easily devolve into mayhem and disorder), this one is taking an orderly approach: Academy students have been collecting and pricing donations for over a week (drop-off donations are being accepted until 3 p.m.on Friday at the gallery and on the day of the event). If you donate, admission is free. Otherwise, it’s a cool $2.

Also part of the event: a beauty bar and style team offering tips and advice, a raffle for Discarded to Divine tickets and live jazz tunes.

Don’t Miss: The Economics of Art

What does it take for artists and designers to succeed in today’s economic climate? Local designers, stylists, photographers and fashion-industry entrepreneurs are coming together Thursday night to share their thoughts on that very question during the first Economics of Art soiree of the year.

We’ll be out in full force for the event, which features a speaking panel populated with intriguing folks such as designer Bacca Da Silva, JT Paradox of The SF Style and The Barber Lounge’s Greg Griffin. SF Indie Fashion founder Lorraine Sanders will moderate.

Afterward, a fashion showcase with the word of Blanche Consorti, Joy Fan and Medium Reality will ensue. And considering the sponsorship by Smart Energy Cocktails and the presence of Del Geronimo’s SFPaparazzi photobooth, we expect much merrymaking throughout the evening. Snag your tickets ($5-$10) in advance here. Proceeds benefit the San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance.
