A New Book for Your Fashion Library: 20 Years, 20 Slips

Art and Bay Area fashion collide in 20 Years, 20 Slips, a collaborative book project that celebrates the 20th anniversary of Berkeley-based designer Erica Tanov through photography and dance.

The book features photographs by Katy Grannan, who shot former San Francisco Ballet principle ballerina Muriel Maffre as she donned Tanov’s Lola slip, one of the label’s earliest pieces, and performed a series of slips and falls before the camera.

Over the last two decades, Tanov’s womenswear has become a staple in wardrobes on both coasts, with stores in Berkeley, San Francisco, New York and, most recently, in Marin at Larkspur Landing’s Marin Country Mart. But the book goes beyond simply applauding California style, thanks to ethereal imagery by Grannan, whose photographs and films have appeared in exhibits at The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, The Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and many others.

Want to slip one onto your coffee table? You’ll find 200 signed copies ($150) available at Erica Tanov boutiques.
