If you haven’t ventured down Church Street lately, here’s a new reason for fans of local fashion to do so: Fiat Lux, a 300-square-foot boîte of a boutique featuring locally-designed wearables for men and women, has just opened.
The latest project from Soul Patch Tattoo owner and jewelry designer Marie McCarthy and boyfriend Alexei Angelides, the brick-walled shop offers a well-curated selection of new items and a small assortment of consignment vintage.
Both McCarthy, who also owned the now-closed Haight Street shop Offbeat, and Angelides want to focus on local products from independent sources.
“If you’re supporting the people around you, I think that’s a good thing….I think it’s important to support original ideas,” says Angelides, who’s also pursuing a graduate degree in philosophy at Stanford.
Clothing by Ric Rac (by Archetype owner Jarred Garza), Menk, Project Transaction, Kucoon, B. Scott and Stella Neptune hangs on racks and chrome hangers installed on the walls, and there’s jewelry from Kittinhawk, Josie Adele, Venus Superstar, Betsy & Iya and McCarthy’s own line Fiat Lux, among others. As for the vintage, Angelides tells us current items include finds from Louis Vuitton, Prada, Hermes and Burberry.
A grand-opening party is scheduled for April 8.
Until then, check out the space in person at 218 Church St. (at Market) in San Francisco.
