While some seek out bustling, 15-plus-chair salons where pulsing music competes with stylist-client chatter, others take pains to find the kind of quiet, low-key atmosphere that makes hair revamps a relaxing, streamlined experience. If the latter is what you’re looking for, a new destination to try is Re:Construction Salon.
Opened this month on Church Street by longtime Hair Play stylist and colorist Ashley Whitfield, the space once home to half of the When Modern Was furniture store (now on 24th St.), beckons patrons with white-washed walls interiors accented with black and earthy green hues and products from Schwarzkopf and Pureology. Whitfield’s goal (other than great hair, of course)?
“I want people to be about to relax, have a nice cup of coffee or a glass of wine and chill,” she says.
Cuts for women start at $70, while guys cuts start at $55. Bang trims and men’s clean-ups are free of charge to clients. Pricing for color services varies depending on hair length, but starts at $85 for partial highlights.
Want to check out the salon for yourself? An opening reception takes place on Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m.
