SF Indie Fashion News Roundup

Gawd. The day that got away keeps on keeping on. In other news….

- Voting is open for the San Francisco Fashion Awards, which will honor local designers, models, stylists, photographers and others during an event at Bambuddha Lounge on July 26. We were thrilled to see SF Indie Fashion friends and many peeps we admire on the list of nominees, including Jennifer Lynne, Kittinhawk, Sequoia and Gita, Nika Tang, Charleston Pierce, Irene Hernandez-Feiks, RAG and Secession Art and Design. We encourage you to vote for your faves!

- Our pals at 7×7 magazine are looking for the most stylish San Franciscans, and we’re betting many of you fit the bill. So prove it already. Submit pics of yourself, friends and stylish folks you know to the 7×7 Style Council by July 6. You might be honored for your style-savvy ways in the September issue of the magazine.

- Speaking of awards and honors, now’s the time to vote for your favorite local independent designers, retailers and business owners in the San Francisco Bay Guardian’s Best of the Bay Poll.

- Acrimony is having a big ‘ole sale, and that makes us happy.

- Dude. Union Street Girls Night Out. Tonight. 20 percent off at Mabel Chong, White Label, Shaw Shoes. Plus, meet Kim C. of Fashion Slave and join the newly-launched local shoppers club.

- Have you registered to win a 49 Square Miles Big Mouth Hobo from AliceAndIsa.com yet? If not, you should. It’s like the simplest thing we’ve done all week. Chances of winning are 1 in 500. Not bad for a bag that retails for $600.

- We especially dug this past weekend’s style section in the San Francisco Chronicle. Check out what Sylvia Rubin had to say about the recent Art Institute Fashion Metamorphosis Show, Aaron Britt’s take on why we should Think Globally, But Shop Locally and Nerissa Pacio’s coverage of the fashion-infused opening of the City’s newly revamped Parc 55 Hotel.

- Need a summer beauty rescue on the cheap? We’ve been diggin’ the deals posted each week on the Cinta Aveda Institute Facebook page. Check the page each Monday for new discount codes on skin, hair and body treatments from the downtown beauty school. This week: $20 facials.

- Speaking of ‘ole f-book, wouldn’t be nice if you became an SF Indie Fashion fan on Facebook today? We think so. We promise to love you forever. And we will also always respect you in the morning. And that’s saying something.

Over and out. For now.

Sponsor Love: Jumpsuit on the Super Cheap

yesstyle-jumpsuit

Sometimes, trying out a new trend is best done on the cheap. We think this button-front cropped jumpsuit from SF Indie Fashion sponsor YesStyle.com is an intriguingly inexpensive option for test-driving the one-piece look. Marked down to $26 via the retailer’s summer sale, it’s priced just right for summer style gamble.

Localize It: Vintage Map Pendants

barbe-st-john-promosfwanderlust

To announce her Wanderlust Collection of vintage map pendant necklaces, San Francisco jewelry designer and Saints & Sinners founder Barbe Saint John asks the question, where would you rather be today?

It’s no secret that we’d pretty much always rather be in San Francisco. Hence our love for the San Francisco Vintage Map Pendant shown here. Available on an 18″ chain, the pendant is etched with an image from a vintage map of the City by the Bay and punctuated with map paper under resin to form the central detail.

If you’re looking to soothe your wanderlust with another city, never fear. There are pendants showcasing places around the globe, from Moscow to Tokyo, Paris to Albuquerque.

Looking for more fresh designs from Bay Area labels? You’ll find them in SF Indie Fashion’s local designers section….

We Got Carded: Fashion Slave Local Shoppers Club

fashion-slave-card_3

Being over we’re-not-tellin’-how-old, getting carded is something we relish almost as much as Audrina Patridge pretends to be enjoying that ridiculous Carl’s Jr. burger she’s mowwing in her latest (only?) commercial (seriously, you know the girl is not actually eating those things).

Another kind of getting carded we’ve been thrilled with lately? Our new Fashion Slave Local Shoppers Club card, pictured above in all its glory.

The card is the latest effort from Fashion Slave, whose founder and overall diva Kim C. ushers out-of-towners on neighborhood and underground tours of San Francisco’s best independent boutiques and local designers’ studios. After spending two years building a business that caters to San Francisco visitors, she’s got something up her sleeve for us local gals.

Purchase a card ($20 for the rest of ’09, but we hear the price will increase next year), and you’ll receive 10 percent off at any participating merchant, as well as discounts on Fashion Slave tours and exclusive deals at participating retailers. While the list of participating stores isn’t public yet, retailers offering the discount have the club’s logo in their windows and include local shops Candystore Collective, Density, Lemon Twist, Studio 3579 and Vintage a la Mode. We’re told restaurants and other types of local businesses will be coming on board next.

We think this makes a great gift option for San Francisco folks who love to shop local. To purchase, contact Fashion Slave or buy via the site’s purchase page (just enter $20 and Shoppers Club Card in the PayPal form).

Pin Up Girls: Rosenmunns + Light Vision Pin Party at Anica

anica-party

The folks behind the interest-piquing party invites shown here announcing the upcoming RosenMunns + Light Vision Pin Party want you and your indie fashion-minded friends to do two very simple things this Friday night. One, get some pins (a.k.a. buttons). If you’re like us, you’ve got a small pin army chilling, quite without purpose, on, in or around your nightstand-bookshelf-jewelry box-dresser drawers. And guess what? They’d really like a way cooler venue.

Which brings us to the second thing you should do Friday night. Head to Anica, where the minds behind local label RosenMunns and online indie retailer Light Vision will be waiting. There, they will ask you to ever-so-gingerly affix your pins to an oversized, sweatshirt-like garment designed, dyed and sewn by RosenMunns and worn by a live model for the soiree. Photographer Bryan Krueger will document the garment’s evolution from relatively blank canvas to pin-addled wearable art. Punk tunes and good ‘ole rock ‘n roll will fill the air. You will leave pinless, but happy. And after the party, Light Vision will sell the evening’s experimental garment in its online store.

As Light Vision’s Krista Bachmeier tells us, “It’s a collaboration, fashion, art event party, and the concept of it is really simple. We just want people to show up, pins in hand, and put them on the model. We are trusting the audience to supply us with pins and help with the creation of this garment.”

Talk about getting stuck on indie fashion…
