6 Sweet Saturday Sales in San Francisco

If we could escape the trapped-indoors doing-our-taxes fest that will surely take up far more of our Saturday than we can even comfortably ponder at this point on a sunny Friday afternoon in San Francisco, here’s where you’d find us:

Gear Up with Doce Vida Fitness Apparel

doce-vida-paraty-pantOver the years, we’ve found that some of the hardest types of apparel to buy from local designers are the most practical pieces of our wardrobe. Challenge us with finding a one-of-a-kind necklace or fabulous coat you won’t find anywhere else? No problem. But everyday gear needs – from socks to underwear to workout apparel – have been known to send us (regretfully, of course) running down the mass-produced trail.

Because of that, we’re always thrilled when we find a local designer who can help us in our mission to put as much of our money back into the local economy while supporting independent designers and entrepreneurs. Our latest find: Doce Vida fitness apparel, a two-woman operation based both in San Francisco and Florida that offers stylish gear for yoga, workouts and the errands most of us run on our way to and from the gym.

We love the fact that founder Jordan Veatch-Goffi left her corporate job with Gap Inc. to launch the Doce Vida (Portuguese for “sweet life”) line of figure-flattering workout tops and bottoms for all sizes, and that this woman-owned business donates 10 percent of its sales to the Heal Breast Cancer Foundation. For Jordan and co-conspirator Lisa Pidge, the independent route has certainly worked out (pun intended).

They’ve been featured everywhere from O, The Oprah Winfrey Magazine to Self since debuting in 2006 and are in the process of launching a new line dubbed Urbana. And if that’s not living the sweet life, then we’d sure like to know what is….

Chaiken Spring 2009 Sample Sale This Week

chaiken_s09samplesalesf

As fans of Chaiken’s always-chic, versatile women’s apparel and accessories, we were oh-so puh-leased to learn that the San Francisco-based company’s Spring 2009 Sample Sale starts tomorrow. It’s an ideal label to try alongside the recessionista (blek, we hate that word, too, but we used it anyway) shopping strategy of spending a little more on classic pieces that will span many seasons and contribute to the foundations of a wardrobe, rather than just contributing weight to hangers in the closet….

Stop by the SoMa headquarters for up to 70 percent off looks from the current collection.

Sponsor Love: YesStyle.com Lace-Back Hightop Sneakers

yesstyle_lace_hightop_sneakers1

We’ve been having a little love affair with brown and black recently, so it was only logical for us to jump on (or should be say into) this pair of Laced Back Hightop Sneakers from SF Indie Fashion sponsor YesStyle.com. The leather keeps these kicks looking slick, while the fold-down construction on the hightops lets us show that we’re mad for plaid when we feel like it and keep the black and white patterned interiors to ourselves when we don’t. Sure, lacing up in back comes with a little learning curve all its own, but then, we’re always up for a challenge.

Meet Tedda Hughes Gallery Boutique

shebibledressb

We had a great time visiting the Tedda Hughes gallery boutique in Russian Hill over the weekend. After meeting Tedda at the space just over a week ago when the art was just going up on the walls and the merch was still in boxes, it was exciting see the place come together just in time for its opening weekend.

Right now, the store is truly equal parts gallery and boutique – with one wall almost entirely devoted to work by local artists Hilary Williams, dk haas and Trish Tunney. The clothing and accessories selection is well-edited and emphasizes independent designers, with pieces by She-Bible, Richard Ruiz, Sass and Bide and Atsuko Kudo hanging from the racks. In back, offerings for kids include standouts like playful superhero capes made by Tedda herself…

We suggest you go check it out yourself, but in the meantime, some pics:
