Donna Lou is a local (Santa Cruz, I think) designer to check out the next time you’re in RagSF or Mingle Shop. While I like the Spring/Summer 2006 collection better than what I’ve seen on the designer’s web site for Fall 2006, I generally dig the vintage-inspired shapes and simple lines of the dresses, tops and tanks. My preference for the former collection may just have to do with the fact that it’s rather bright and cheery, while the pieces for fall are a lot more somber, gray and black and army green. But Donna Lou’s overall presentation and style makes me think the company will be around – that you’ll hear more in the coming seasons from this designer. There’s a real perspective there – a point of view – the importance of which I’ve obviously absorbed via osmosis from Project Runway.
