Pandora’s Trunk – Dec. 9

From the fine folks behind Pandora’s Trunk:

Supporting the arts is as easy as going shopping… and getting to know an artist is as easy as staying there! Pandora’s Trunk is a little slice of life where the rubber meets the road in the Bay Area Arts community – all the silly posing and free cocktails of an art opening, all the clean-smelling hedonistic temptation of Fresh Merchandise, and all the robot-tinted humanity we can muster. Our warehouse will be crammed full of recycled, re-thought delights, exclusive imports, cutting-edge fashion, and a variety of other Things That Are Good For You On All Levels.

Saturday Dec 9th 1-7pm
Free admission – live music – free drinks

Edible Love
– Handmade chocolates
Omnicircus – Scary robots
Customs:Nothing to Declare – Remade vintage cases
WhiRR – Robot stationary
Now You’ve Done It – Robot pillows and artwerx

Artist Aharon Bourland (Cellspace) has an array of adorably unsettling devices – they don’t get out to play much but as long as you don’t talk back to them they’re sure to be friendly. These astounding robots represent the place where imagination and the future meet, evoking a Miyazaki who works in fused metals and plastics instead of pen and inks.

Alexandre Koulouris will be hanging several lighter-than-air mobiles. The largest piece is a Calder-inspired spray of shining brass and aluminum vanes – we are installing special lights to really bring out the shimmering reflections. The other piece, West Nile, is very exciting and clearly pays homage to Lee Bontecou’s later work. Cross your fingers for him to press forward in his studio and we may have a third piece hot off the… sewing needle?

Peter Adriel will bring us soulful folk guitar & harmonica – this young but accomplished singer-songwriter could arrest any crowd with his intensity and candor. This will be one of his very last shows in town before he moves out, moving on and moving up. He will play tag-team with our classical violist.
